Kidding of course. But his corner was terrible. If he is ever to fight again, he really needs a legit trainer.
I was concerned about that going into the fight. I think with Cotto's style he really needed a good strategist trainer in his corner and even Freddie Roach acknowledged it. His corner provided nothing more than glorified cheerleading, even dragging his father up to the corner to tell him his family was with him. Really sad, things might have been different if Manny Steward got his wish to be in the corner.
pacquaio was defiinatley deteriorating down the stretch and would have been knocked in the next minute and a half. pac was lucky the ref stopped it, look at the state of his eardrum.
nobody (in exemption to cut man and roach) didnt even know he had that till the post fight interview and the fact that cotto is no longer punching back
I agree about having a guy like 'manny in there. Cotto was effective early in the fight when he was using his size, getting him to the ropes, etc. Of course, Pac was looking to counter. I think a good corner would've advised him to this (i.e. force to the ropes) and then go to the boxing that was used late. Cotto is a good boxer, but you can't win the round if your backing up and not throwing...so, why not get inside...do your thing and then box out before the counter punches. Easier said than done, but more effective than, "come on, you got it".
the minute he go inside...like the 4th round...he's winning that one....then BOOM....he dont know where he is.....you just cant let ur guard down with pacman....he'll hit you in the most unexpected time and awkward position....
