Mosley was NOT losing to mayorga. He always looked guff at 154 too - he becomes this pot-shotting, one punch KO merchant who doesn't have real KO power at 154. Add to that the bad advice in his corner and you had a seriously good recovery. The difference with Richardson in his corner was incredible.
Like the judges, you must have been watching a completely different fight. I thought Mayorga dominated from start to (almost) finish.
I like Hatton he has been a great brave fighter who was only beaten by elite fighters, he has done a hell of a lot for British boxing and is now promoting very decent cards. He was never the most skilled but look what he done with hard work and a big heart.
A rose tinted look at things, he has been good for boxing in one way and bad for boxing in another. We still have people saying he is on a higher level to a fighter like Witter. Both men are the same.......decent world level operators who were champions in watered down divisions becuase of boxing promotors etc need to sell so called championship fights to the public. If we had a division for every 10 pounds, which is far more reasonable then do you really thing Hatton would have been champion?
I think you must have slipped into a parrallel dimension when this 'Urban myth' was going on as I can remember it clearly. I'm not even a Witter fan, just a fan of British Boxing Hatton had numerous opportunities to fight Witter between 2001 to the present date and he bottled it time after time. Especially when Hatton and Witter were #1 and #2 in the division after Hatton lost to Mayweather and Witter had beat Corley for the title..... that's when the fight should have happenened they'd have been squaring off for the Ring magazine title at 140, but Ricky handpicked Lazcano and Paulie to fight as they were safer options that would keep his US fans happy. Hatton-Witter in the Manchester City stadium would have been a humungous fight and occasion over here... the Benn-Eubank of this generation The fact that Witter didn't sell tickets is of no consequence, how many tickets did Lazcano, Maussa, Oliveira, Stewart, Pedersen, Rios etc. etc. etc. sell? Who was clamouring for any those fights???
Always was overrated. Abandoned his 'skills' at world class, either that or he wasn't good enough to use them at the top level. Made him a hideous fighter to watch. He did well and racked up some decent wins after his crowning glory against Tszyu, but it might have been different if he stepped up when Judah and Cotto were still around.
No chance mate Witter Vs Hatton was most likely going to happen around the castillo fight. I thought they were building towards it when Hatton Vs Urango was teamed up with Moura Vs Witter. Witter should have destroyed Moura in brutal fashion that night to make a statement to the public but i had trouble getting people to watch it. I'm a huge Witter fan not as much as icemax though :yep and i think this was Witter's opening if he took Moura out on Hatton's bill and got his fans thinking maybe Witter could do this to Hatton then that fight would have been a big seller in the UK. Then JLC offered Hatton the fight after a lack lustered win over Herman N'Goudjo the same night if Herman got the decision he deserved that night maybe we would have seen Witter V Hatton :think. After the JLC fight Hatton was the cash cow around that weight. He lost to Mayweather big deal he is still a big name with a big following who could sell out almost anywhere. Why fight Witter when you can pick an easier fight win and still keep your staus.
Well yeah, thats exactly why he didn't fight Witter. He could make the same money against any old scrub, which he repeatedly did in the WBU days. Not exactly a great mentality for a boxer though, to avoid the main domestic rival.
Thats the thing, people laugh and poke fun at Witter yet he fought Judah in his 17th fight, does anyone seriously think Hatton would have beaten that version of Judah in his 17th fight. What about Witter losing to Bradley and Alexander, does anyone really think Hatton would beat men like Bradley and Alexander at 34 or 35? Thats 4 years away, i mean people are already talking about how he is shot. Hatton should be grateful he made more money from boxing than bloody Pernell Whitaker, A. Pryor, A. Cervantes, JC. Chavez, W. Benitez, R. Duran, E. Rozario, and E. De Jesus......and thats just off the top of my head....of fighters around 135-140 who were far better.
