Let me first say that I was rooting for Ward but that **** was just disgracefull, Iv'e never seen anyone being a more dirty fighter than hopkins and getting away with it but ward now takes that title. From now on I hope the europeans never agree to fight in the US for the rest of the tournament because you can never seem to get a fair shake there.
Who knows what would've happened if the referee had deducted points from Ward for the headbutting and constant holding and hitting. I don't think Ward has to fight dirty to compete with and beat the best, but his performance last night was disgraceful at times, and the ref was every bit as bad as I feared a home town ref would be.
Ward was hitting a hell of alot on the inside and the headbutts did have an effect but I feel Ward still had to much speed and class for him
And here I thought beating Kessler to the punch all night and not letting Mikkal land one meaningful punch was the reason.
Ward's dad is dead. Ward started the fight strong and probably could have won without the recklessness and dirty tactics. The blatant headbutting (was it 5 or more?) was disgraceful as was the constant holding and hitting (which the ref failed to see and kept telling Kessler off for. Whatever, Ward had Kessler's number and I look forward to watching him the future but only if he uses his head and keeps the butting and holding well in check.
I totally agree, I made a thread about this last night, The referee didn't even deduct a point from ward which was disgraceful. No doubt that if the cuts didn't happen then kessler would of won. He was getting the upperhand till the first cut developed, that said, he gave ward a tough fight to say he could only see out of 1 eye. He deserves a rematch, and im sure he will get 1 and knock ward out.
Hold on.... are you talking about Kessler? You must be joking right? I'm sorry, but Ward out classed him from the first round on. Kessler had no game plan and couldn't execute. Period. Her under estimated a highly motivated and skilled Ward. By the way, I'm not an American I'm a Canadian.
Very nice to see there are some (if few) Ward's fans who still manage to remain fair and not to lose every ounce of objectivity I predicted Kessler to win by KO, and I too admit I was wrong, for Ward performed better then I was thinking he would be able to do That being said, Ward's blatant headbutting and other extremely unfair tactics are a disgrace for the boxing. He deserved a DQ for this. Now he managed to get the W and having pretty easy schedule (Taylor and Direll) I expect Ward to get into the 1/2 finals, but there he will meet some tough guys, and I bet Kessler will be there too to avenge this disgraceful loss, and next time Ward won't get away with this...
