I thought Cotto-Pacquio was stopped prematurely but THIS fight, the ref should have stopped it much earlier. Jirov is going to have problems down the road.
Having Toney winning was fine, but I can't see 117-109 at all. Was a great fight. Jirov's workrate is something to behold, but Toney's talent was on full display that night.
The 12th round in that fight was amazing. That was one of those fights that really made me root for both guys down the road.
Counter punching masterpiece by Toney against an opponent that was tailor made for him,Jirov showed alot of heart but was outclassed by lights out in a very good fight.
It takes two to make a classic. The fight was a brillant counterpunching lesson by Toney, but Jirov just kept coming. He was relentless. I had it closer, 115-111 for Toney, but sometimes looking at the fighters faces after the fight is enough to know who the winner is, even whithout scores. Jirov was a beast, and had underrated boxing skills, a great bodypuncher too - I think he would have stalked down Haye and stopped him if they ever met. But he ran into Toney, who just so happened to be in good shape for once and who was totally wrong style-wise.
That was a great fight .. Jirov isnt the most elusive fighter out there tho... he was pretty much begging for punches. I think Jirovs corner through Toney would be out of breath by the 9th round.
IMO it wasn't really Jirov's best performance, though...although that could certainly be attributed to Toney. Jirov at CW was usually more elusive...some good movement of head and body. But he looked a bit pudgier than usual that fight and afterwards, he ate himself out of contention.
Jirov was twice the cruiser weight that Haye ever was! I think that was Toneys best performance in the ring.
I reading some strange comments about Jirov like "he was a beast" etc. I think allot of Toney fans are hyping him to make JT look great. Jirov never beat any one special before the JT fight.
