In watching Kessler's fights in the past he is use to backing fighters up. So because of that he tends to move forward as he throws his shots.

In watching Ward, you can tell that he watched alot of Whitaker fights as a youngster. Because like Whitaker Ward moves foward as the guy throws shots at him which takes away the snap at the end of the punches and puts himself in better position to counter.

When you have that you will have headbutts. The reason that Kessler got the worst of the headbutts is because he fights so upright.

So in summing it up what you had was both fighters looking to move forward. Kessler being use to fighter moving away from his shots, and Ward wanting to get into the pocket so he can be in position to counter.

I know that some want to taint the win by Ward by saying that he was doing it to gain an advantage, but that is just not the truth.

I agree.. you got blind guys like Booradley saying that they were intentional butts... I just watched it again and nowhere does it look intentional, I posted earlier how the butts were more of a product of Kessler lunging in and Ward moving in defensively with his body bent over..

I fully expected all the whiners to come out and use that as an excuse... and if there were no headbutts in the fight, they would have just found another excuse... like the ref, or elbows or some other bull ****...

People can't see that Ward just gave Kessler a good ol fashioned ass whoopin.

According to the euros, calzaghe fans, and kesslerites... The head butts were intentional....He did it on purpose....The head butt in the 8th caused Kessler to get his ass kicked for the 7 rounds before, Kessler was easily winning the fight and would have KO'd ward in the 11th and was then robbed by the judges in the technical decision.

I agree, the butts weren't intentional and kessler wasn't getting his ass whooped because of the butts.

Had the fight taking place in Denmark, with danish refs and the two fighters going at it with the same tactics....Ward would have won! The headbutts and the clinchfighting did not decide the winner. However it should not be accepted. Ward should have had a warning or maybe even two. Also, Kessler corner was harrassed the whole fight through be alleged press taking the trainers space. In the lockerroom an american was positioned there to annoy the danes - they even tried to make him leave unsuccesfully. That tainted Wards win and stained american boxing. Ward didnt need foul play to win - America just needed that belt....at all costs...shame on you!

Looks like someone has been reading Danish news ;)!

They also refused to give Kessler the weight pre fight and other things.

But it's no new story - here on ESB people are pretty well aware of what happens when guys fight away from home - happens in Europe too.
