Why do so many people dislike Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

Boxing is different. These guys literally fight paycheck to paycheck. There is no 8 year 20 mill contract given up to them. They lose one fight and they can be fighting for peanuts the next fight. Boxing is not like other mainstream sports. There is only money in it if you are a big name. How you get the big name is another thread. But the american way is to go out and get money and hustle and bustle. Boxers are not in the gym day in and day out working hard for YOU to give them pin reading "you are warrior" Nah, they are fighting for the dough. Floyd just talks about it publicly too damned much but this is what each and every fighter does behind closed doors.

 

Exactly. I would never criticize a fighter for trying to make a living and become a billionaire if they want too.

Don't even waste your time. The fact that Pacquiao is getting all this praise for beating guys that Floyd already beat tells you everything you need to know. If Floyd hasn't been fighting quality fighters, then Pac has fought only one quality fighter in his last 4 fights.

How was Genaro over the hill. He was what 30 when he fought Floyd? And yeah, Oscar was no where near close to prime, but at 160lbs against a guy who fought 90% of his career at super feather, coming off a brutal KO of Mayorga, Oscar would have been a tough test for any welter, not just Floyd.

As for Floyd being overrated? Sorry you must be referring to another Floyd. Not Floyd Mayweather whos beaten 13 champions, and gone undefeated over 5 weight classes, 6 time champ and has the lowest hit to not get hit ratio since compubox started recording?

You know, maybe I'm weird, but I just truly don't give a ****. I care about how he fights, not whether or not I'd want to have a beer with him. He's not murdering people or burning orphanages...he's just a guy who talks a lot of **** and comes across as a real douche on occasion. As long as he remains a brilliant fighter and the worst thing he does is say outlandish and occasionally douchey things then I'll continue to watch him.

Why do people care so much that athletes be likable? That's not their job. Their job is to perform excellently, and Floyd does. I wouldn't ask him to be godfather of my kids or anything, but I'd sure as **** rather watch him fight than some nice, humble, and mediocre figther.

Besides, for a boxer being brash is often the best way to get exposure, rather than toiling in silence and just hoping that someone notices that you're great at what you do and decides to put you on TV. The business isn't that friendly to up and coming boxers and you have to do what you can.

 

He's good, rich, young, black, talented and arrogant. That's why he's hated. And please don't try to deny the racist element to the hatred of him.

People often despise the man on top. A lot of it stems from the fact that Floyd is the best boxer in the world, pound for pound, and they would rather that it was Pacquiao. So, they despise everything about Floyd, but it doesn't change anything.

 

People dislike Mayweather because he claims to be greatest of all time when he hasn't even faced the greatest in his own division.
