Kessler's camp set to change their setup

I agree. And you can also add in the fact that Joemknows Keslers style from firts hand experience and knows where it is weak and what can be done to improve it.

 

Totally agree. Kessler needed to employ multiple jabs to start his offensive and on occasion add the odd right hook or uppercut when Ward charged forward. He seemed a step off the pace but still was competitive. He ineffectively reacted to what Ward was doing and should have simply worked on landing punches (legally) on any part of Wards body before launching his power punches. I hope they both meet again later on in the tournament.

 

I don't think much of Enzo as top rated trainer. His other fighters acheived success more so throw careful matchmaking/Frank Warren's promotional powers.

I'd be leary of changing trainers right now. It's not like he gets any tune up fights or extended time between fights. If he's fighting Froch in early March, then bringing on Steward could leave Kessler looking confused in the ring.

Mikkel looked psyched out during the fight. Miranda did better than Kessler, that should say something. The speed was a problem, the southpaw stance that he didn't train for was a problem, but I think the clinching by Ward was the biggest problem. That lead to the unintentional headbutts which caused the serious damage. Miranda was no where near as busted up as Kessler, and Miranda doesn't have as good a defense. It also took away any rhythm Kessler needed to get an offensive flow and maybe being able to adapt.

Double up the jab on the outside, but also learn to do some damn in fighting. Ward was dominating both areas, shouldn't have happened like that.

 

I remember in the Calzaghe fight Kessler's corner didn't even have any EndSwell for the puffiness that was building up on Kessler's face during the fight. I don't remember seeing any EndSwell, either, during the Ward bout. Maybe I missed it.

His team needs to get its act together. Mikkel has looked a lot better than he did this past weekend. Credit goes to Ward, but Kessler looked flat and just bad.

 

The thing that struck me most was that Kessler seemed to have absolutely no gameplan against Ward. From the first round to the end of the fight I saw little change in Kessler's work. His team must have known how fast Ward was and then devise a strategy to frustrate him and put him off his gameplan!?

It was as if they just went in hoping Kessler would land a big shot on him early and then the rest would take of itself.

There's no doubt Mikkel will look a lot better against Froch, a fighter who comes forward in straight lines and who doesnt have great speed or defence. But, I do fear for Kessler, under his current training team, when they come up against another fast fighter.

Is it too late for Kessler to change trainers?

An American trainer isn't feasible, because he lives in Monaco and wouldn't be willing to spend enough time outside of Monaco to establish tax domicile there.

 

Maybe his trainer should resign if he feels he is burden and Mikkel is just too nice guy to fire him. I guess they have grown a good bound for all those years but maybe the time has come to split.

If Kessler want's to beat speedy opponents he needs, among a few other things related to movement, to increase his punch load. Since he's normally in pretty good shape, this can only come about by reducing the energy in his punches. He has to throw more "soft" punches at the cost of reducing the number of power punches.

 

He's got to find a trainer that gonna work with him on an inside game cause people now have the blueprint for victory against the Dane...
