1.Sweat Pea He didnt have to use his legs hed stand in front of u and make you miss
2.Floyd He has fought some pretty good comp(despite hiscritics)and still hasnt been hit clean too many times.
3. Benitez had the best defense of the 80s
4. Pep Great defense but relied alot on his footwork
5. ???? B. Leonard,Jones,Prime Ali,Winky,Starling and lots of old timers.

Guys like Jones and Ali didnt have the best technique but it was still hard as hell to land on them in their primes. Who knew that Jones would end up having a glass jaw and Ali having a steel one.

 

Forgot about Charley Burley maybe he should have been 5.

There's been some great names coming up in this thread, but Locche is the kind of once in a lifetime defensive talent I wouldn't have believed existed until I saw it myself, and even then, there's always a disbelief in how easy he made it look. No disrespect whatsover intended towards the other defensive masters.

It'd be sheer lunacy for any fighter to employ that kind of defense Locche did for his entire career. No trainer advocating that would have a job for long. Yet, the man was never caught clean enough to be knocked out over the course of 136 fights. His defensive reflexes could best be described as "psychic".

 

Talk about cool under fire... Loche makes James Toney look like a bundle of nerves. I think he could have ate a bologna sammich while he was hanging out on the ropes ducking punches.

but he's the best defensive fighter of all time.

 

There are different types of defensive fighters, some make you miss with pure reflex, some make you miss with great technique.

That defensive show Mayweather put on against N'Dou I think, where he was up against the ropes and shoulder rolled out of a onslaught of punches was one of the best things I have ever seen.

Sweetpea also had amazing technique but also just seemed to have a natural alert to where punches were coming from and getting out of the way without even having to put his hands up.

Yes, when he was well on the downslide as a fighter. Great two round war that fight was, though.

 

Unfortunately N'Dou was terrible, so it wasn't a very conclusive fight in judging his defensive skills.

 

:yep That was a classic Lora was a slugger that night even though he was on the wrong end. Canizales was also past his prime too. Gaby looked like a Little Duran against Sandoval(even thoughSuper Fly was Drained). If You cloned Gaby and his Little Carnal Orlando together. I think you might have the best little man ever:yep

Althought not the best, i believe a Prime Mike Tysons Defence was pretty good, probably one of the best heavyweight defences ever
