Very good point, altho i don't believe Floyd is being underrated in the fight per say. More his resume is being critised and you cannot hear no complaints from me as I have critised him many times regarding who he has fought at welter. For the pacman fight, he will be favourite and rightly so as he is the bigger man with great skills. I don't think no-one is underrating him.

Matweather seems put out at having to "prove himself". Just shut up and fight the fight. That's what great champions do. Him and his fans act as though putting himself to the test against the best that's out there is some kind of personal attack.
There are a lot of similarities, not so much the style of pac/tito but of the situation. Though while Hopkins was the underdog on the betting lines so far PBF is favored. But it is similar in that a lot of guys were trying to knockout Trinidad and brawl with him (vargas, Joppy) the same way Hatton and Cotto went in there looking for the KO. Hopkins had a plan and strategy and was prepared to go 12 the same way Floyd will be. Defensive minded guys like PBF, Hops, Winky, Chris Byrd ect can be very hard fights because they are expecting in to go 12 thus they have a strategy to get there and dont take the risks leaving themselves open to the big shots. They generally do well against the punchers.
Well, good observation, but the difference is that Trinidad didn't show anything new or bring something new to the table every time he fought, which is something Pacquiao has done in his last four fights or so. Hopkins was also relatively unknown outside boxing circles at the time. Not many people knew much about him, which isn't the case with Floyd Mayweather. Why some people are still doubting Many Pacquiao is beyond me. People are still calling him one dimensional even after he beat Miguel Cotto. But that is a whole other issue. Mark my words...I'm saying this before the fight is even signed...Manny Pacquiao WILL beat Floyd Mayweather. I'd bet everything I have on that. Just wait and see.

Exactly my thoughts when I read the opening post. There are situational similarities, however the situation sorrounding the fighters doesn't dictate the outcome. I think everyone should have clear that Paquiao is a better fighter than what Trinidad was. Mayweather is on Hopkins level in my opinion and that also says a lot. In no way do I see Floyd dominating Pac like Hopkins dominated Trinidad but I do think he will win the fight.
Actually I really really thought Pac-JMM I would be like Tito-Hopkins. Pac was coming off impressive streak of KO victories and moving up in weight while JMM was an established yet highly underrated champ at the higher weight. Althroughout boxing history, the same outcome usually happens when an exciting KO artist meets skilled boxers with iron chin...a KO win for the latter. Cases in point: Foreman-Ali Hearns-Hagler Tyson-Holyfield Tito-Hopkins Pac defied history though...:yep
This could have similarities to that, as you can't gage Pacquiao destroying Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto and just say it going to happen to Mayweather. I mean it could happen. But Mayweather has a much different style and he is light-years ahead of both defensively. So I could see Mayweather winning big. I just see it being a close fight. One thing is for sure it will be a much bigger business fight then Trinidad-Hopkins.
