2006-09-16 : Joan Guzman 129lbs won against Jorge Rodrigo Barrios 131½lbs by SD in round 12 of 12 Location: MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Referee: Vic Drakulich Judge: Carol Castellano 113-114 Judge: Bill Graham 114-113 Judge: William Lerch 112-115 World Boxing Organization Junior Lightweight Title (Vacant title) Weights: Barrios 131.5 lbs, Guzman 129 lbs There is no way this was a split decision. Guzman won every minute of every round. It being only a split decision was an even bigger robbery than that seen tonight. Therefore tonights judging is only the second worst example in recent times in a big fight. Don't hate Guzman he has been a victim to this too. Just add the judges to your list.
You are ****ing crazy, Barrios-Guzman wasn't a robbery or even close to it in the scoring. Guzman did what he always does and faded down the stretch. He gave up a lot of the late rounds either showboating or not throwing punches.
Or by outlanding his opponent 2 to 1 in every round. Not only hammering him volume wise, but also with better quality shots. Even worse than the scoring tonight, except the result bit.
Guzman faded in that fight but he at least got the decision. I don't think it was as much of a landslide victory as you are making it out to be. I'd have to rewatch the fight because I only saw it when it happened but I thought Guzman won like an 8-4 maybe 7-5 decision because he gave up a lot of the later rounds. Hell I think he almost KO'd Barrios in the 1st round if my memory serves me correct. Guzman showed heart tonight, but he also showed just like in the Barrios fight, he is a frontrunner. He almost had Barrios out of there, but once he couldn't finish him, he played it cute.
Armando Santa Cruz vs Joel Casamayor was pretty bad too. Sometimes you just have to wonder what the judges are thinking. This was bad.
