Where next for Cotto?

The problem with Cotto now is that although he's only been beaten twice, the manner of said defeats probably amount to what 4/5 stoppage losses would.

Margarito would be so confident going into that fight ESPECIALLY IF HE KNOWS DEEP DOWN HE DIDN'T CHEAT IN THE FIRST FIGHT
Mosely would hurt Cotto if he was to rematch him within 3/4 months of getting past Berto (Should he do so)
Clottey - well he wont be getting another shot will he
Hatton offers nothing for him and neither does Cotto offer anything for Hatton

Berto is the best option out there for him IF he could get past Mosely but its still tricky

 

As much as I disagree with the idea I would be amazed if it's not a Margarito rematch next. Really unsure now as to how this would go as I reckon both men are damaged goods after their last fights.

 

I reckon he definately needs a couple of fights against decent operators, but ones that dont carry the threat of a mosley, clottey or margarito. Somebody like Collazo or Hlatshwayo (he is IBF champion) and see what happens.

If he shows he's still got something left after that (I really do hope so) i'd like to see him move up to light middle for a couple of fights, just to win a title and become a three weight champ and probably move back to welter.

 

Cotto can do whatever he wants to do. I hope to see him in many more exciting fights earning many more big pay days. He is in a fruitful division. He has a great legacy to build. Losing to a machine like Pac is no shame.

Margarito rematch is what makes the most sense.

 

Welocome and great question. There is only one answer for me. retire. Cotto has had a great career, been in some barnstorming fights and had some great wins. A 2 weight world champ and only 2 defeats, 1 to someone who maybe was cheating and the next to a fighter who may yet go down as one of the best ever.

Cotto has nothing to prove, has a wife and young family and most importantly made $10 million in his last fight.

There is many boxers in his position after having had a couple of hard defeats would give up but still need the money. The likes of Jose Luis Castillo would probably walk away tomorrow if he could afford to but keeps taking fights and getting beaten up because he need the money.

Cotto is a rich young man - he should retire before he takes one beating too many.
