Think I posted in that thread and had it roughly the same, close win for Eubank. The fact that everybody called it a robbery just goes to show how boxing can be nothing more than a popularity contest
I've been watching through Eubank's career recently and scored all of the fights that had been considered controversial.I've reached the first Thompson fight now, and the only one i'd say was an outright robbery was the Dan Schommer fight. I also had him losing to Benn by a point, and thought Benn was the better fighter that night, but i wouldn't call it a robbery. I actually think Eubank has a better shout for being robbed himself in the first fight with Close and first Collins bout. Had the Watson fight for Eubank by two points.
1-Eubank 2-Eubank 3-Even 4-Eubank 5-Eubank 6-Watson 7-Even 8-Watson 9-Eubank 10-Even 11-Eubank 12-Watson
Michael just plodded forward all night, waiting to counter. The three rounds he won were more Eubank losing the rounds than Watson winning the rounds. Eubank boxed out of his skin I thought.
You've managed to actually find the Schommer fight? Kudos to you. It's one of a couple I find it difficult to find.
Eubank-Thornton was a close fight - Eubank won the first four, Thornton the next four, the ninth was all Thornton til Eubank shook him in the last few seconds of that round and flurried to nick it. Then the last few rounds were just Chris running away, literally physically turning his back at some points and running. I'd have to give Thornton that fight, as sharp as Eubank looked early on. The other one would be Schommer, in which Eubank was picked off all night long. I thought he won the Benn II fight, Benn only won round four clearly out of the first six and Benn didn't do enough in the last couple of rounds. It wasn't a good performance by Eubank who's patience and reflexes seemed to have suddenly diminished to nothingness. But Benn was throwing even more punches off-balance than Eubank was, that night.
