the future of british boxing with current champs AMIR KHAN, DAVID HAYE and carl froch is buzzing at the moment and with talents such as these coming through the ranks (two of which stand out for me) britain is gonna be a major power in the next few years FRANKIE GAVIN a stylish elusive aggresive slick counter puncher who i personly think is the best out the crop an will surpass the achievements of ricky and joe TONY BELLEW an amazingly hard hitting puncher with knockout power in either hand JAMES DEGALE, BILLY JO SAUNDERS, TONY JEFFRIES, STEPHEN SMITH, DON BROADHURST this is just a few exciting names good times are ahead for british boxing
Scott Quigg and Nathan Cleverley should be added to that list too mate, i think in a year or twos time the game will be buzzing, we have so much talent coming through! Not forgetting Joe Murray, George Groves, David Price, Tyson Fury etc etc
Tony Bellew, Stephen Smith, George Groves, Frankie Gavin and Joe Murray are the 5 I rate highest. Also like the look of Liam Walsh, Ashley Sexton, Scott Quigg, Tony Jeffires, and I think DeGale has something about him. I do not see Billy Joe Saunders, Tyson Fury, Derek Chisora doing much beyond domestic level. I think Cleverly, Brook, Mitchell and Barker have the ability to compete at world level in the future, not sure if you would call them prospects now. I think Burns, John Murray, Macklin will all fail to win world titles.
I haven't been this excited about British boxing in a long time. I was speaking to my boss about this last night. He used to be a fan back in the 'Fab Four' era and said he also enjoyed in when British Boxing was on terrestrial with the likes of Benn/Eubank were all on. He hasn't really watched it since but he bets a little and when I started working there he used to ask me for tips. Recently though he has said that he has found himself sitting down every Friday night to watch it and has even watched a lot of the ITV cards and payed for a couple of PPV's. I was saying last night how in 2/3 years British Boxing could be in one of the best periods in its history. We have a hell of a lot of very good prospects coming through. Apart from the obvious ones I'm telling you all now that Ronnie Heffron is gonna be the man in a few years
Lets get people to put their knecks on the line then, out of the prospects named so far which THREE will go the furthest? Its a tough one but i'd go for - Bellew, Gavin and Quigg Swap Brook for Quigg though if we are calling Brook a Prospect as i think he is going to be World Class!
Great thread by the way Butterdean, this has got me feeling very optimistic for the future of British Boxing!
ok i wont include brook as his past being a pospect so the three i go for in order FRANKIE GAVIN TONY BELLEW JAMES DEGALE
yer basically all the names mentioned there from a local view young swifty excites me the most i really believe he will go all the way and bellew also
Brook, Cleverley McCloskey are stand out in the very near future Gavin, Bellew and Groves in the next 2/3 years Heffron for 4/5 years
Not a new one but Darren Barker to progress to World level and i think with improvement Adnan Amar could be pushing ... I also like Joe Murray and Vinnie Mitchell ...but Mitchell hasnt got much of a punch so may struggle moving up the ladder ! But along with Fury , Price , the olympians , John Murray ...theres alot of good uns out there .....
frankie gavin, stephie smith and i think billy joe saunders IF he drops back down to welter or LM at most dont think much of the walsh bro's or chisora
Kell Brook, Frankie Gavin and Tony Bellew would be my top three. Brook just looks better every time I see him, has power, great technique, personality - I think he could be really special... I also like the look of George Groves, Stephen Smith and although he hasn't gained great reviews recently, Jamie Cox. Degale gets a hard time from some but I think he's top quality too. If you disregard all the hype around Degale, and just judge him on his ability I struggle to see how you could not describe him as a serious prospect?
