What is the biggest fight with the most hype and most anticipation you ever remember? I remember the second Holyfield/Tyson fight having everyone I knew talking. I was in the MGM grand while the fight was going on, and I saw like jack nicholson, busta rhymes, playboy bunnies, wayans brothers... all kinds of body guard and **** everywhere. I think with 24/7 and today's hype machine, this Pac/May fight is going to be some serious hardcore promotion.
I thought De La Hoya and PBF was the biggest at the time. The hype and everything was amazing. Wasn't it fun to be ignorant. I wish i was around for Trinidad v De La Hoya.
Hagler vs. Hearns. I loved the buildup for this fight. Tommy had just stopped Duran and the questions were what would the right hand of Hearns do to Marvin's chin. Hearns was a little too cocky for this fight. He knew he knocked out Duran and he believed he would stop Hagler. You could tell. And Hagler was going to go to war and Hearns sort of insulted him, so the way the fight materialized is not a shock. Both guys thought they were going to win by knockout. Supreme confidence for both.
As a 12 year old British kid the build-up for Lewis v Tyson was massive, no mean feat when there was also the World Cup on.
Tyson vs Lewis. The build up, the drama, the fights before the fights, it got every one including the casual sports fans pumped up.
4 Way tie between... Leonard Vs. Hagler Chavez Vs. Whitaker De La Hoya Vs. Trinidad Tyson Vs. Holyfield
watching hagler vs mugabi (some of the worst ads in boxing history to hype the fight) made me a boxing fan and a fighter. most significant fight i've seen was marco antonio barrerra vs kennedy mckinney. started the boxing after dark franchise on hbo. and a great fight that more then lived up to billing. a heavy wght bad card featuring hasim racman vs oleg maskiev and the rock got ko'd out of the ring! the undercard fight between muarice harris and derrek jefferson was the best hvy wght fight of the 90's imo.
