Danny Green TKO1 Roy Jones

Let's be honest here. Save for some such as a few around here with true insight into the matter of Jones essentially being a protected illusion for the last four years, or that Hopkins had the tools and game to dismantle anything Jones could offer, going forward, regardless of who couldn't fathom it, Green deserves full credit for destroying a guy highly ranked and on the cusp of a much anticipated mega-rematch that everybody would have watched.

Danny Green did his job when many figured he couldn't. God bless him and I hope he gets further, lucrative opportunity and credit off of this.

 

I dont know anything much about Danny Green or his standing in the division going into this fight, so I dont know what he gains from it.

But I do know that RJJ has been washed-up for years. The Glen Johnson fight showed that. That was over 5 years ago, and RJJ hasn't looked any better since then, really. He picked some good opponents to get some wins over, but when you're past it, you're past it. And his fight with Calzaghe confirmed that.

Just like we all know Evander Holyfield is light years past it. He might get some favourable match-ups in a weak division, and with luck sneak a win or two over some "ranked" opponents. But if anyone good is about he'll get spanked. That's what happened to RJJ every time he fought someone good in the last 5-6 years.

Ali was one of the biggest and strongest guys among the 70s heavyweights.
He was effective in his thirties,because he was able to take a very hard punch and could outmuscle his opponents in the clinches.

 

Did you see what Hopkins did to Joppy? His ****in head was swollen to three times its normal size. It was gross. He shut Holmes down in every round and was robbed against Taylor twice. Oh, and for the record, he did stop ODLH... He would whip Jones' ass.

 

One of the main reasons why Hopkins still has it when RJJ is shot is because Bernard has a great chin where RJJ doesn't. Plus the fact that any fighter that relies on extraordinary athletic ability over basic fundamentals will always have a shorter career. RJJ's whole gameplay is about not getting hit - once he starts to get hit his whole gameplan begins to unravel. RJJ would have made Green look silly if they had fought 10 years ago.

 

Doesnt matter what he did to Joppy that fight was ages ago, didnt knock him out, and the fact he couldnt knockout Taylor is just more proof the man is not a huge punching threat, nor do I think hes improved as puncher as hes gotten up in age. What your failing to recognize, is Hopkins although still having a good chin, is old as dirt. He doesnt fight at a fast pace, he doesnt punch hard, hes not a swarmer, so its perfectly conceiveable that Jones could look better against him. Speed for speed I would say Jones is still faster than Hopkins, so if he approached the fight by trying to keep it at distance and in the center of the ring it might suprise all you conclusion jumpers.

 

I think Jones has been shot for years. He might have tricked a few people by beating up other shot fighters, but I don't think he's been a top fighter for a very long time. I actually finally called a fight right. Yay for me. Sucks for Roy, though.

Such a nice knockout in an impossible scenerio.

The thought of these 2 even fighting is hard to swallow let alone this.

 

Yeah same thing when Holyfield was supposedly being fed to Tyson. I dont know. I think there is still interest in the fight, Im pretty sure from talking to a couple writers today that HBO will scrap it or make them take massive paycuts, but I also heard some other networks want the fight. Something tells me the fight will still happen. What are Nards options, get beat up by Chad Dawson or rematch Antonio Tarver? Nah....

 

He's shot. We have known this for a long time. He was a man who depended on his reflexes. His defense has never been fundamentally sound. Once he sustained his first concussion, he was never the same.

 

Its over for Jones. Although he was well past his best, the glass Roy Jones comments will be coming out of the woodwork again. The punch that floored him was nothing but a pillow slap, and it didn't even land flush.

 

One thing about Hopkins though - he still doesn't get hit that much. Even in the Calzaghe fight, he didn't take all that much punishment. His constant holding/headbutting/etc prevents that.


A Jones/Hopkins fight indeed would not prove anything, but i'd watch it. Call me crazy, but i think Jones could still be competitive. His hands are still somewhat fast and he's always excelled against guys like Hopkins. Plus, while his punch resistance seems to have diminished almost to a ridiculously low level, Bernard probably doesn't have the power to do to him what Green did. Green still is a big dude with a high KO%. All wrong for Roy at this point. At least he was stopped on his feet and didn't go to rigor mortis after a single punch this time.

Both Jones and Hopkins should retire, and a rematch between them would be meaningless at this point, but it'd still watch it and think it would be a decent match.
