You think Lacy was a better win than Hopkins and you still expect your views to have some credibility?

He beat Hopkins, Hopkins was still good. Joe tried 2 fight Hopkins earlier.
I personally just favour Calzaghe prime v prime against Hopkins
    RJJ is ahead.
P.S. There are way more hater threads than hugger threads about Calzaghe.
Everytime a SMW fight happens people bring him up just 2 bash him instead of taliking about the fight/current fighters.

I would say Lacy was a better performance.

But on his record B-hop is the better win.

    undenial fact, though isn't it?

Where was Hopkins ranked p4p when Joe fought him? 3? He was hardly passed it, probably in fact near his peak, as he showed when he schooled Pavlik.

It depends how much you value H2H when comparing fighters' legacies. Personally, I rank him above B-Hop but not above RJJ. Hopkins was not shot and Calzaghe clearly (in my opinion) won that fight. RJJ was shot and has a better resume in general.

This thread is about a year old and I've brought it back from the dead because s few things have changed in the past fortnight.

The fact that he beat a still capable B-Hop does not mean he is a more accomplished fighter. By that rationale Jermain Taylor would outrank him.

PS I know you're referencing his victory over B-Hop along with the rest of his career, but now it's a little harder to determine exactly what "The rest" is...

I recognize that it's difficult to determine how valuable some of Joe's wins are. To clarify, I would not complain if someone ranked Hopkins above Calzaghe. To me, an argument can be made for either side.

With fighters who accomplished as much as Hopkins, RJJ and Calzaghe, I find it virtually impossible to come up with an objective ranking. Hopkins had great career - defining victories, Roy Jones had unbelievable dominance and a great run through weightclasses. Joe is behind both in these categories, but damn it, never losing is quite something as well. Hopkins and Roy have losses to far inferior fighters that would not have beaten Calzaghe. I mean Taylor outspeeding Calzaghe for six to eight rounds to pile up enough points for a close win? Would never happen. Tarver knocking out Joe with one punch? Forget it.

All three had great careers. Roy was perhaps the greatest athlete ever to put on boxing gloves. Hopkins was one of the greatest ring generals ever. Joe had unbelievable consistency, always finding a way to win, great combination of speed, insane workrate, chin and will. An argument can be made to discredit each fighter's career, Roy's because of whom he didn't fight, Hopkins because he beat up smaller men in some of his best victories, Joe because he fought only bums...all of which are very narrow - minded arguments. To me, ranking Hopkins above Calzaghe is fine asl long as both are acknowledged as great fighters.

Calzaghe needs one or two more fights to get people to stop underrating him. He was a great fighter and beat everyone they put in front of him, but still he should maybe try and beat Dawson and then go for Green and that would be a good way to retire after beating those two. Even then I think people would be hard on Joe.

Roy Jones' win over Hill and Ruiz top anyting Calzaghe has done.

Not to rip on Calzaghe, hes a real good fighter, but the caliber of opponents Roy defeated, and how he defeated them, clearly is much higher in superiority than Calzaghes's. This is real clear and only a Calzaghe fan or some British guy would deny this.

The Virgil Hill who Roy beat > Anyone Calzaghe has ever beat.

this is coming from a neatrel standpoint im not a hard fan of either guy.

Chances are Calzaghe would have beat anybody on hopkins and RJJ resume, problem is he didnt and that is what causes this never ending debate. Anyone who understands boxing could see he had the potential but also anyone with eyes can see he never fullfileld it. IMO
