Mundine rejects Geale rematch

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing
IBO middleweight champion Anthony Mundine has refused to give a rematch to IBF #8 Daniel Geale. Mundine scored a hotly disputed decision over Geale to win IBO title on May 27 at the Brisbane Entertainment Center, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Most boxing writers at ringside had Geale winning a clear decision. “We tried hard to make the rematch between Mundine and Geale happen but they were not interested,” said Bill Treacy who is the manager of Geale. “IBF middleweight champion Sebastian Sylvester is on our radar and hopefully we can get a shot at the world title within twelve months.”

Disappointing, but not surprising.

Will the IBO strip Mundine now? I was under the impression the Geale rematch was mandatory.:?

I guess Phil will let us know but one would think Mundine will need to vacate the IBO MW title.

Geale will get the first shot at a vacant title......maybe against SAM

Anybody that thought Geale won a "clear points win" is nuts...the fight was much closer than that with the KD in round 2 being the difference.

What a startling surprise Mundine's ducking Geale...if he had a shred of credibility left it just dissipated!

Interestingly, the Melbourne Herald Sun for one, are absolutely dissing Mundine today. Suddenly the media have drummed up the courage to actually say what they think about Mundine's 'career', and the print is about as pretty as his 'acheivements'!

Apart from a few of us on here........most of australia arent intrested.
Geale as good as he is isnt a household name and the crowd would be approx 5000.
Not enough money in it.
