It's not the losses!! It's the fact that he was more than likely on STEROIDS when he achieved all time great status

They didn't to SRR...but then again SRR didn't cherry pick like Roy did in his prime

Yes from an emotional point of view. Seeing him knocked out again takes away from the godlike aura of invincibility once associated with him, permentantly. However, looking at his resume objectively, we all understand he was long past it his past few fights, and can't really be judged based upon it in terms of ATG status.

It's the tale of two disparate careers.

One culminating in the Ruiz achievement; the other culminating in a sloppy and embarrassing knockout loss in Australia.

The former is encased in pretty sterile packaging, uninformed by the pollutant of the latter.

You should have did a public poll....

For the record, I voted NO because you cant undo what a man has done, fathertime effects all men in different ways, some quickly, some gradually but NOBODY beats it if they stay in the game long enough, the guy is about 40, give him a fkn break.... his legacy became secure as houses the moment his hand was raised post Ruiz.

If he retired then, people would be comparing him to SRR so nothing has changed in my eyes, he`s only human, he just happened to look super-human in his prime.

    The End !

It shouldn't tarnish ****. But it has. Fighters should be allowed to fight for as long as they want without tarnishing their legacy but unfortunately that's not how it works.

No. Roy is still the only man in 100 years to win titles from middleweight to heavyweight.

I disagree with the posters saying it doesnt hurt your career. I think it does. especially these guys with declining skills who arent yet shot. RJJ should have beat Green, even at this advanced age he still has the skillset to outbox green. To me, this means that he took a bad loss that he should have won. Any loss on your record counts. The longer you hang on and slide in a few ok wins the argument remains that you take some bad losses.

This was a 1st round TKO. 1st round. RJJ wasnt even competitive. This is a total **** loss and makes him look bad, therefore it tarnishes his record. It is always better to retire on top when you have done what you needed to do, like Lennox Lewis.

its just sad that roy couldn't adpt his style as he got older like many other greats could do. he's lost so many fights later in his career because he's got a glass jaw.

No more than Alis record is tarnished by his losses to Holmes and Berbick.

Hes still the same guy that beat Hopkins with one good hand, first guy to beat Toney, first guy to go from middleweight to heavyweight and be a world champion in 100 years.
Beat Hill,Griffin,Tarver, prime Gonzales, and a host of other legitimate world title contenders.

A few losses late in his career, doesnt affect all that.

If he retired after the 1st Tarver fight,we'd all be asking now, whether he was the greatest of all time or not

Yes but mostly by the losses to Tarver and Johnson, not so much by the Calzaghe loss and his loss to Green.

Not for people who knows boxing. For those whose saw that his skills clearly dimish after the Ruiz fight.
