Have Roy Jones' Losses Tarnished his ATG Rating?

Simple fact is that if Roy had retired after beating Tarver in the first fight he would be extremely high on the p4p list. Yes people would always argue about his cherry picking but his achievements would speak for themselves.

Now however, his record speaks for itself

No. Anybody can lose a fight, even if it's to a guy you have no business losing to. Roy Jones lost at the end of his career, something alot of guys do. You judge a fighter based on who he was in his prime not by how bad he was past his prime. Ali, Robinson, Leonard, Tyson, Holyfield, Chavez, Louis, Holmes, and many many more lost when they were past it, that doesn't take away from who they were at there peaks. That's one of the problems that we have in boxing today. If a guy loses it hurts his legacy, no matter how great of a career he's had. Don't you think that's dumb. Do you mean to tell me a fighter can never lose, especially when he's past his best? You throw away a guy prime for a loss when he's not what he used to be? That's stupid.

I honestly believe the Danny Green loss helped his legacy, before ya criticize that listen to this... Nobody will ever remember Danny Green, but the fact that Jones Jr. lost to a virtual nobody will remind people of the 2 KO losses in 2004 and people will say he should've retired in 2004 and Tarver 3 and Calzaghe won't be notched against him on most people's ATG list so if anything it helps him because it takes huge signifigance away from his 2004-2009 losses

 

But he didn't retire and now we know he wasn't the greatest of all time. ****, take all the losses off every fighter in their career and they would all look better.

 

He is one of my favorite fighters ever, objectively and in hindsight he doesn't lose any ATG status he has been shot since 04, when he should've retired after the first tarver fight or after John Ruiz fought some other heavy, win or lose he would he would've gotten a lot of respect and then retire. But as a fan, he has went down a view notches to me. He is giving people a lot of new associations as far as his career goes.

 

Not at all for me, for gods sake he was 35 when he lost his first real fight after being weight drained and ruling the boxing world for a decade before that, and a long amateur career before that! Give the guy a break!

 

Ali when he was as shot as **** never got KO'd in round 1. Plus Green ain't Berbick.

 

Only to people who evaluate his career just based on those losses .Years from now people will still be talikng about how great he was at his peak his greatness outweighed his losses so in essence no ! Haters change the record your **** is old like trying to get your ex back she's just not into u so let it go !!

 

Of course they have to a small extent,,

but nowhere near as much as the steroid abuse has.

 

His Glass Jaw has tarnished his legacy more than anything. No wonder he handpicked all those fights in the 90's.
