If Floyd hadn't retired, which of these Welters would he have fought?

I'm laughing at the results... I was expecting a higher percentage for Cotto.. probably would have fought Cotto if it was more strenuously pushed...

    less risk and high rewards...
Margarito and P.Williams would be out of the question as he showed no signs of interest what-so-ever

Where is Mosley on the poll?

He would have fought Cotto. Cotto was the money man in the Arum camp. The fight didn't go through because of Arum's games. Arum wanted all the fighters in his own stable to bang their heads together so that he could double dip in all of the fights being promoter for both sides. Now that he has exhausted the "in camp" cash stream and ruined/cheated a few of them along the way? He has to make the fights with Mayweather.

What? Margarito, at the time he was pushing for a Mayweather fight, could barely get past Clottey and lost to Williams. We later found out about his cheating ways. How in the hell could Mayweather duck a C class cheating opponent?

No WW has interest in fighting Paul Williams. High risk for an opponent with ZERO following. Why isn't Mosely crashing his post fights?

Mosley? The same dude that got schooled by slow Cotto and was squeaking by Vargas and Mayorga when FMJ was at WW?

You guys have no recolection of events or awareness of time lines! :bart

I can see him fighting Cotto possibly. But this was a Cotto who was undefeated and who clearly beat a guy Floyd has never seemed particularly interested in calling out.

Still, I think that would have been a big enough fight to get his attention.

Floyd wouldn't have fought any of those guys listed in the poll. He would have looked to rematch Hatton or Oscar. Then maybe a fight against one of the 2nd tier welters like Berto or Clottey. He doesn't have the guts to take on the real challenges out there like Mosley, Williams, Margarito when he was coming off the Cotto win. He knows he's capable of beating Pac in a decision. Pac is the smaller man, and shorter reach. I don't see Pac beating Mayweather at all. When Floyd is finished with Pac he'll say he's beaten the best p4p fighter and will continue to avoid the men who pose real problems for him.

Vette1 you don't even make sense. The thread was about when FMJ retired. IN THE PAST. At the time, 2007ish, Mosely's career was on the skidz and he was fighting Collazo (who I really like) for peanuts and getting out boxed by Cotto.

Here is a jewel of wisdom... It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Go back to looking pretty and lurking. Boxing ain't your thing.

You do get points for knowing the reference though. :good

hey man..... if you read carefully I said "showed no interest" yet you changed the subject to ducking etc. Am I making claims of ducking?

Yes Margarito was pushing for the fight, but PBF did not show any genuine interest... can you show me anything where PBF was genuinely interested with Margarito.. I know that there are a lot of youtube vids that says otherwise..

Anyways, you seem to know what is going on PBF's head, but yet retired, did not fight either fighters aforementioned even though you gave your reasoning... when he "retired" did he not say "he has nothing left to prove" and that he's "retiring on top"? Sounds like he didn't need to fight either fighters.... probably only just for a paycheck....

It's landslide - Mayweather is not ducking ANYONE. BTW, ANYONE is a lightweight and has a record of 0-0-0 record according to boxrec.

FMJ didn't "show interest"? What "interest" is FMJ supposed to show? These guys get in the press yapping and then let Arum screw them out of fights behind closed doors. Ask Arum why the fights didn't happen. FMJ sure was fighting other money fights at will. Calling people out is pointless if you can't follow through on the business end. Mayweather stopped calling these clowns out after Gatti. They don't really want it.

Hell FMJ didn't show "interest" in fighting Manny. He just said that if he gets the money right I will kick his ass. The money got right. He signed quickly. No business person shows "interest" in people with no business sense.

No, he doesn't have anything to prove. Yes, he retired on top. He is back and fighting for prizes like all other prize fighters. Manny presented a worthy prize, he signed immediately. Get Ready!

He wanted Cotto immediately before and immediately after Cotto beat Mosley, Cotto said he wasn't ready.

Everyone is always going that he retired to duck the above fighters and more, but has anyone ever thought that the guy has been boxing for way over 12 years without really taking a break while being quite young. You really have be impressed that he kept with the sport as long as he did without taking a break.

But yeah I think that he'd have fought Cotto: same size and overall at the time Cotto was probably the safest option available if you're talking about Top Welterweights.

    Thank you!

The common thread in all of these "ducks" is that they are always Arum controlled fighters. Always! He was able to get it together with fighters managed by others with little to no fan fair!

These guys are allergic to reality though...
