    ....Don Curry and Milton McCrory met to unify the welterweight title that had been split since the retirement of Sugar Ray Leonard. These 2 fighters had cleared out the division and, like Leonard and Hearns before them, looked far and away the best 147lb fighters in the world.

    As it turned out, Curry made it look easy.

    Im fairly new to boxing (last 2 years or so) so never heard of these two and I was thinking McCrory had some good footwork in this video, then BANG!

    Curry was brilliant, such a beautiful fighter to watch but always killing himself to make weight, which many believe was his ultimate downfall against Honeyghan and his subsequent career after that .... While his flame flickered he was a true superstar, but that flame shone for such a short time ..

    I know what you mean. Doesn't seem that long ago. Curry really was looking like almost the perfect fighter round this time. McCrory himself was no mug.

    If I was ever going to make a boxing movie the sound effects of the punches would all be taken from the left hook that Curry throws in the 2nd round of this fight. What I love about this punch the most, even more than its devastating power, is the NOISE it makes when it lands flush. What is more amazing is how quick it’s delivered. It looks like a left cross until one sees the slow-motion replay from the opposite angle when the swinging left hook can be seen in all its glory. It sounds like a cross between a whip cracking down and a champagne cork being popped. Bob Foster once described his fight with Dick Tiger as “Ice cream and cake” implying the ease in which he beat an all-time great. There is a similar scenario here (except for the all-time great bit).Curry's greatness was short lived, only three or four years, but what years!! This KO is probably the one I have 'played-rewind-played' more than any other.

    Very easy to forget how good a prime Don Curry was, he had an amazing set of skills on him. Simply a spectacular finish to the fight.
