he actually won that fight on pure CHIN and the foreman fight...he was a **** talker but he was willing to back it up...either him or frazier could have quit...prob good that frazier did cuz he may have just died trying the next three minutes...what a fight
atsch You say you never have seen Calzaghe down:huh Did you see his last 2 fights,he was dropped in both of them. He was also badly hurt against Byron Mitchell a few years ago. Calzaghe doesnt even come to mind when i thin of great chins hes got an average one. As for PBF hes got a great defense, the strength of his chin is kind of unknown right know.
Based on boxers I have grown up watching, my list would have to be (in no particular order): 1. Marvin Hagler 2. Evander Holyfield 3. Roberto Duran 4. Shane Mosley 5. Antonio Margarito 6. Ricardo Mayorga 7. David Tua 8. Vitali Klitschko Hagler took some hellacious punishment against Hearns, but that head and chin of Hagler is so strong, Hearns wound up breaking his right hand. Holyfield took some monster punishment from big time hitters like Bowe, Foreman, and Lewis. His ability to absorb shots from Bowe and come roaring back in the 10th round of their 1st fight is the stuff of legends. As someone already noted, only "The Real Hitman" Hearns was able to crack the chin of Roberto Duran. Shane Mosley has only been knocked down once in his career, and that was against Vernon Forrest in their first fight and I believe it occurred after Forrest butted Mosley (correct me if I am wrong). Mayorga has shown througout his career his ability to take some monster hits. Only 3 people have managed to KO him, all of which are powerful punchers (Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mosley). Now, I know Margarito is pretty much despised and considered a cheating piece of garbage, but when it comes to chins, only Mosley has been able to crack it. I believe Tua deserves honorable mention. In his fight with Lewis, Tua took some heavy right hands from Lewis that would have floored anyone else and Tua just took them and kept coming. Vitali's chin is just amazing. His fight against Lewis showed just how good it is when he was taking some vicious shots and kept coming. Man deserved a standing ovation for that performance in that fight. Lewis barely escaped.
Actually in the last 30 years id have to go with Chavez Hagler Laporte Sanchez Villasana But as you can see by my other list theres sure a hell of a lot to pick from. All time probably Lamotta.
Another little guy who springs to mind is Wayne Mcculloch.....Great stamina and also a great chin....
Hagler did have one badass chin. I think as well floyd must have a good chin, but his defence means that he never really gets hit square. I was just wondering what people thought, was not 'hating' on him, was just wondering as I cant recall him ever bein hit flush. I think anacri you are right, we will find out in march.
Arthur Abraham should be mentioned i think, i mean the guy fought with a jaw that was broken in 2 places for 8 rounds and did not go down.
A few have mentioned Hagler ..i wanna agree ..He took an uppercut in round 4 against Mugabe ..that shud have broken his neck lol ...and just shrugged it off ...and then Mugabe in round 6 showed his chin is made of the same **** Wolverines Claws are made of ... Check out the uppercut at 2:04.. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT9PQ2gOrnQ[/ame]
