I know his ego is part of it but even still...

Alot of champions had a fight in which they had to survive against an opponent that really shouldn't have challenged them. Hell, I remember when Bert Cooper had Holyfield down and the uproar that caused. People forget that Holyfield had been training to fight Damiani and instead had to fight a completely different type of fighter in Cooper at the last minute to go ahead with the card at the Omni.

Peter was training for Oleg Maskaev and then ends up fighting a giant Jameel McCline. Regardless of McCline's ability the change of opponents is going to factor itself into the equation somewhere. Another thing, I don't think Peter went from having an iron chin to having one made of glass. I saw him walk through Wladimir Klitschko right hands that would have knocked down houses without even flinching and people are gonna try and convince me that Peter has a weak chin? I'm not buying it. I think the uppercut caught Peter and really affected him. The weak state he was in during the 3rd round prior to the next 2 knockdowns were the results of the damage the first knockdown did. If you want to criticize him you have to acknowledge the courage he showed in coming back to win the fight as well. It cannot be overlooked.

I think it's safe to say that Peter doesn't have a glass chin, but he doesn't have iron chin everyone thought he had. Good job to Peter getting off the canvas to win the fight, but he needs to also be grateful that McCline gassed out. Peter has a lot of work to do, he has failed to impress against a solid fighter..I really can't even consider the Klitschko fight a good performance. Other then the 3 knockdowns, 2 which are controversial, Klitschko easily beat Peter.

Most of the big right hands that Vlad landed on Peter were on his forehead...an uppercut has a whole other dimension to it...

that's what i was thinking when i saw mccline hurt peter with the uppercut.

going back and looking at the wlad-peter match i realised when wladimir did sit down on his punches he aimed dead on the nose and forehead area.

if wladimir works on the uppercut which he showed a glimspe of a good one verses brewster in the rematch (which i believe actually broke brewsters jaw when he was against the ropes late in the fight) he would put peter away i think.

he hurt peter with a hook in the first round, and stunned him on a couple occassions, then made him do the hoola hoola dance in the 12th. if he threw more hooks and uppercuts, he'll get peter out of there in a rematch, even if peter is as fit as in their first fight.

then again maybe that beating peter took in the wladimir fight cracked his chin. i mean, toney stunned peter after that fight, and now mccline has decked peter 3 times and not debatable knockdowns but geniunely hurt him.

anyway if peter comes into the maskaev fight any higher than 240 he will struggle with the superior boxer who knows how to move for 12 rounds without gassing. if peter comes in at 250 maskaev will wait til he tires after a few rounds then start the uppercuts and hooks. oleg has more power and stamina than mccline, and this will seal the deal for him if peter is overweight.

if oleg wins which looks more reasonable now, he'll be the ring no2. but unfortunately if his brother comes back the ring belt wont be any use as vilali will be no2. then

Could be Peter ia already on the decline.Aside from Toney, he's never really beaten anyone of note, despite the fearsome reputation as a puncher. Most of his kayos were over very knockoutable opponents. In a rematch Wlad beats him more convincingly, and even the soft Russians have a good chance against him now.

If it's any consolation, Peter beat Byrd in the "ridiculous face" contest this year.

    Good post.

People forget how important that can be. Admittedly so did I. I figured that McCline would be too available. Little did I know he planned on pulling the same gameplan Waldo did. And little did I know further that DKP, Duva and the NYSAC would do absolutely nothing to stop the same travesty from happening again.

And yea **** all that noise about his chin. Those punches McCline landed in succession would have decked ANY heavyweight out there. Most of them woulda been out cold.

I love how people can actually stretch reality so far and make McCline into the dirty fighter while Peter was rabbit punching and hitting low so often it was insane.

Yeah, a lot of these fans have never boxed before...so it's impossible for them to understand this concept...That uppercut was right on the button and it doesnt matter how strong your chin is, it is not going to take powershots on the sweet spot. Anyone who doesnt understand hit your own chin in upward motion, then hit your jaw, then hit your nose and forehand...this will give you an understanding of how different punches affect you..

What the hell are you smoking...

Just to refresh your memory Wlad already fought McCline and defeated him by TKO. Flooring him and making him quit. Hey, guess what, Wlad has beaten Peter too, by unanimous decision, whinning 10 of 12 rounds.

All you haters got left is the IFs and WOULDAs

I am not one of the people who criticises Peter. The man is still young and learning.

Speaking from experience, uppercuts rock the **** out of you - especially when you don't see 'em coming!

    In Za- in Zaire.

    But the Quitschkos aren't gay.
They are just very very effeminate that's all.

    And they love Liberace.

I suspect the same thing. peter can be outboxed, if maskaev doesn't crumble he definitely could outbox peter, hell, a lot of guys could outbox peter, hasim rahman might be able to do it.
