I rate him as an all time great for what he was in his prime, but his career turn-out puts him in the lower tier of the totem pole. Ability-wise he was certainly top flight at his best.
I have him at Low ATG because the level of competition that Tyson dominated was very weak. Tyson is a Brooklynite just like I am and I cheered hard for him during his reign but the only other 2 ATG's that he fought he lost to and that's Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis. People can use the training excuse but in my opinion having self discipline is part of being an ATG and Mike never had that.
Tyson's dempsey roll was a thing of beautiful. When I think of Tyso, I don't remember him post Douglas. Post prison Tyson had really lost a few steps.
Mike was one of the most tenatious fighters i ever saw box.. I was fortunate to see him sparring on numerous occasions for many of his world title defences, he was at his peak imo around the time he boxed Alex Stewart.. The best heavyweight along with Lennox in my era...... Absolutely unreal when at his explosive best... a phoenomenon..
86-89 Mike in his prime id put him in the top 3 all time Heavyweight boxers ever in terms of power, speed, ability, etc. When you look at is entire career though, id put him somewhere between 10-13 all time HW champs.
