Aleks would do quite well in the UFC. He is a threat to anyone in the heavyweight division. Only the best fighters could beat him. That said - I think Mir would have a chance at submitting Aleks - but he would have to take him down first and that is no easy task.
What do think of Mir's chances of defeating Aleks standing? Mir has shown considerable progress here. Mir ko'd Nogueira, Lesnar seemed eager to stand til Mir landed a substantial strike in the 2nd round of their 2nd fight, and Mir knocked down Kongo.
If the UFC had a Royal Rumble, Fedor's brother would PWN the likes of Kimbo, Mir, Couture, Nog, Carwin, etc and emurge the victor. In short, the guy would literally dominate the UFC HW scene. Not even Lesnar would stand a chance.
He could, but he wost likely wouldn't. He would be a huge underdog, and with a good reason. He would do very well against a lot of opponents, his hands are as good or better than most of the division if not all of it. His gas tank leaves a lot to be desired, especially with the high level of size and athleticism in the division. I like his chances in a lot of the fights, he has a surprisingly good ground game, although his guard is often more to survive than attack. He is like Wilson Guevia, he has great striking and an better than average ground game, but would likely have trouble stopping the better wrestlers from taking him down. What would really determine his career is the commitment to train right and be disciplined.
That is just flat out absurd. I hope you get hired to make the lines for betting sites, I would like a new boat. A lot of you seem to forget his last big fight was 3 years ago, and he lost it to Werdum I could see the argument for how he could possible beat Mir, I would possibly pick him to beat the deteriorated Couture and only a really good day even a deteriorated Nog. I would give him a better chance against against Carwin than Velasquez because Carwin relies more on striking and size whereas Velasquez more on wrestling technique and what to do on the ground once its there. But to think that he would beat all of them with no trouble, or that he would really even be a strong underdog against Lesnsar is pretty stupid.
Most accounts say he is a nice guy with a bad past, he recently saved some innocent woman or kid or something and beat their attacker and turned him into the cops.
That is great. SERIOUSLY! However you do not need to be a nice guy to have a sense of justice and bravery. I have no doubt he is a brave man. I just recall so many interviews when he brags about past indiscretions. Good for him if he has jetisoned that aspect of his personality.
It's hard to "know" any of these guys, especially or there is a language barrier. I imagine that since he gets asked non-stop about it and translations fail to deliver tone and real meaning, so who knows? But he could be an ass, look at a certain golfer's image in the past week, we don't know any of these guys.
I'm still not sold on Mir as a striker. I know he battered Nogueira and he dropped Kongo - but his style is so awkward and wide. I don't consider him a striker at all. I think Aleks eats Mir for lunch if they stay standing.
Why isn't Alex fighting such a long time? I saw a interview of him in august, he was saying he will fight against a bulgaria guy (which has a win over Fedor in combat sambo). Instead he made the professional boxing debut.
I remember rumors were everywhere of Emelianenko failing a test for hepatitis b as being the reason he was removed from last year's Affliction card. Aleksander claimed he was late for his physical because of a delay in getting his visa, and denied the hep b rumors. I have no idea which was true.
