Right then, apart from fighting Thaxton for the British Title, is there any point of Khan fighting any other British Lightweight, it seems that whoever he is put up against he gets slated for fighting them, would any other of the guys in the domestic scene give Khan a real test ?
Yes, I think so. Thaxton, Earl, Stewart & Meager would all give Khan a test... they're all solid domestic fighters with good experience and good records. Would any of them beat him, they'd need to be at their very very very best. Interesting that Lee Mcallister won the WBU title last weekend. Mcallister Khan, Dec 8th anyone?
Khan looks to be in 50-50 fights with the likes of Earl, Thaxton etc but at the same time he has the talent to dominate all of them. These fights need to sow us if he has the intangiables for the world stage. Think Thaxton-Hatton. Thaxton only won 3 rounds but it was a good stiff test for Ricky.
Fairly confident Arthur could step up from SF and beat him...but not something I think he should really do at the moment. Better to take his shot (should it ever come) at SF.
I think arthur could beat kahn at the moment but when kahn has somewhere near the experience of arthur i think he would beat him. I know he has done fairly well of late but whenever i think of arthur all i get is a picture in my head of him gettinghammered by gomez.
you and a lot of people hotti, but that was a lifetime ago in his career. Believe me, I know Arthur is not a perfect boxer, but he's got the experience and perhaps most importantly the power and boxing brain to beat Kahn (at the moment). I'm not even anti-khan. I just think he's yet to be put in with anyone of real danger. There are only so many decent featherfisted opponents out there.
I agree that he would beat kahn at the moment but give kahn 5 or 6 more fight's and i think he will have what it takes to beat arthur, you have to take into account that kahn is a big lightweight as well and that arthur is a super featherweight.
Kahn is a big lightweight, true. Arthur is a very big SF though as well you have to remember. Arthur is now pretty much at his prime, Kahn is still young. So yeah, in five or six fights Kahn may well have the skills to beat Arthur. I'm not denying his natural talent, but he is still beatable, and maybe always will be...hard to predict too much.
does any one fancy John murrays chances at beating khan? I would really love to see murray-khan fight, if khan manages to defeat graham ''my name is earl'' and jono, i'm sure his critics will argue that both fighters were past there best? murray would be the best option as a final domestic fight for khan
Earl If he lands on that chin. John Murray would lose to Khan, Murray takes alot of punches off journeymen and just tries to keep a tight defence.
Murrays career has gone down hill since the well doccumented, and down right shady, change. Infact, whats he doing nowdays? Went form best prospect in the UK to releasing press releases saying Khan's <insert comment here>. get on with your own career IMO. His younger brother (Murrays) is hoping to fight in the olympics isnt he?
Murray is fighting Dean Hickman for the English Lightweight title . Although I think Khan would probably win a fight with Murray would be a good one and Murray would have a real chance , at the very least presenting Khan with problems he hasn't solved before . I think Thaxton takes Khan and although I reckon Khan stops Earl easily enough , that's a fight that should happen(and looks like it will) . If Alex Arthur was to move up from Lightweight I think he's beat Khan too .
funny you say that, because i thought that briefly. warren saying khan may fight for another title on 8 december has everyone thinking jono thaxton, but the more cynical side of me thinks he may suprise us with Mcallister who fits the profile of previous opponents. i do hope i'm wrong though...i think warren will struggle to sell the WBU title to the british public, especially as even the itv commentary team take the **** out of the belt.
