Calz vs Hop-- Divided more or less along UK-US lines?

calzaghe is just such a faygot that it's difficult to be a fan of his, no matter what side of the pond you are on.

 

it was a god awful fight that neither fighter "deserved" to win really. Joe was busier and forced the fight, bhop did some decent work early then acted and whined for time to recover late on.

I gave up scoring but a draw seems fair in my head (i know thats bull**** but i ain't watching it again!) and thats all i got.

I am quite a fan of both fighters but that **** was a terrible spectacle. If i was forced to pick i say bhop by 1 point max.

When the result of that fight was announced i went straight for the stand by button on the tv and that was it.

Oh and am a brit by the way.

I'm an American and I thought Joe Calzaghe won. I scored the fight twice and had Calzaghe winning 114-113 the first time and 115-112 the second time. I would never score a fight unfairly in favor of someone because they are American or for any other reason for that matter. A lot of Americans, myself included, aren't very patriotic anyway. I am a big fan of both Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe. It was a great fight in which both fighters fought well. It was for the legitimate Light Heavyweight Championship of the World. Calzaghe won close, but this fight doesn't hurt the legacy of Bernard Hopkins. Joe Calzaghe is an all-time great fighter and losing to him is no shame. Hopkins may have lost, but he wasn't knocked out or beaten badly. I would have loved to have seen a rematch.

 

Recovery? From the slap attack?

The shot was low, but it wasn't the sack. He put on that performance for a point deduction as it was the second clear low shot from Calzaghe. Not a particularly sportsman-like tactic, but that's never been Hops' thing anyway. Hopkins was not hurt.

 

Didn't he want Max to touch his "private"?....lol

 

I thought JC won by a few rounds but the fight sucked balls. I'd rather watch Haye v Valuev three times in one night that watch that **** again.

 

I'm a Brit but I had Hopkins winning this by 1. Thought he landed the cleaner shots

 

How can it be divided along UK-US lines when approximately only 25% of people thought Hopkins won??

 

Pavlik also brings none of the stylistic problems even a past-prime, weak-handed Calzaghe brings. Pavlik's a pressure fighter who relies on his opponents standing in front of him to land his big jab-straight combo, but he's not a high-volume swarmer who forces you to move round and defend yourself constantly.

Calzaghe was taking over the fight because he was out-working Hopkins to the extent that Hopkins was having trouble keeping the pace. If Hopkins hadn't stalled from time in the tenth, he could have been stopped. He was getting tagged quite a lot by that stage, it was only the breather that gave him the time to pull it back together.

 

I meant recover his breath as in he was gassed out, not hurt. Hops was trying to buy some time to rest. Neither fighter was ever hurt in the fight IMO.

 

Can you imagine the beat down pavlik would of got if the calzaghe fight had of been made :think
