Seems to be the only sport where participents are not severely punished- a 'slap on the wrist' type ban etc

    Roids Jones jr, Toney etc

I have my suspicions that a famous 80s 'sweet tasting' boxer was on roids late in his career plus a well known heavy who kod Tyson

i wonder if blood-doping is being used in boxing? i dont think they would ever get caut if they use it and it would give them the extra 10 % in the last half of a 12 rounder!........i wouldnt be supprized at all:think

doubt that blood doping is used tbh, they are much more likely to use epo. Drug tests in boxing are probably very basic, looking for common steroids and illegal drugs - nothing compared to the level of testing in cycling.

Use of steroids and EPO in preparation for a fight are probably very common, before coming off the drugs intime to pass the prefight test. EPO is undetectable after a very short time so can be used until a few days before a fight, and muscle doesnt disapear overnight after use of steroids is stopped.

btw epo can give a much bigger advantage than 10% - all depends on a persons natural haemocrit level and how high (or how stupid) they are willing to push it up.

Example - a person with a natural level of 40% who increases to 50% will gain a 20% increase in the bloods oxygen carrying capacity.
Then factor in the boost extra muscle could give and the effect of more and better quality training that drugs will allow due to aiding recovery.

there is no testing done when fighters are inactive....you can cycle off steroids easily before the test. thats why sanctioning bodies should test year round. and save the samples.

So quite possibly a large proportion of boxers since the 80s have been using performance enhancing drugs:think Every boxer should be random tested in the 2 months before a fight with the same technology/proc. used to catch cyclists.. and a minimum 3 yr ban IMO..but thats not going to happen is it?
