Both showings would be pretty mediocre for him unfortunately.

well lots of reports you hear in canada is that GSP does very very well against the canadian wrestling team. a guy like GSP wouldn't does this to have as average showing. he would want to win and i think wouldn't do it if he didnt think that was possible. that being said i dont think the canadians are dominant by any means at wrestling so he might get his ass handed to him if he made it to the olympics.

GSP isnt stupid. He knows he's bread and butter is MMA. But he clearly has very strong competitive juices and the desire to win one of the highest accolades in the world which is a medal at the Olympics. I see no problem with it all. His record wont be tainted as we all know he's a stud. More power to him i say.

Hell, it might even be a good thing for the Welterweight division. If GSP goes for a year and a half and then fairs mediocrely at the olympics, in that time there could be a new solidified champion and a fight with GSP could be huge.

Now every fight GSP takes seems like a sure thing for GSP, a layoff could actually bring excitement.

I wonder what kind of ratings boost olympic wrestling would get.

I definitely consider myself a GSP fan - but I have to agree with you one hundred percent. GSP seems to not want to fight Anderson Silva. Now I know nobody wants to buy GSP-Penn III - but would you buy Penn-Silva I? I bet BJ Penn would. **** - he's already fought Lyoto Machida - the champion in the weight division above Anderson Silva. I think I've heard this story before about GSP wanting to go to the Olympics but nothing ever came of it. Perhaps it's just an excuse to take a break from active fighting for a while - and perhaps he really wants to compete at the olympic level. I don't know - but I think it's a shame that he doesn't take a chance and challenge Silva for his title.

I have mixed feelings about this.It will certainly make 170 more competitive.
