Joe could possible force a stoppage but I doubt it. Lacy took a much worse beating & still made the final bell.
atsch For gods sake don't be so stupid. Do you even know when Hopkins' prime was? Or are you basing that ridiculous statement off you knowledge of Calzaghe? Calzaghe won the fight, but you fools who say no case can possibly be made for Hopkins have NO eye for detail or are ******ed. "The American judges scored it for Joe"... Correction. 2 of them did. 1 had it for Hops. It was close and, as it was, could have gone either way.
if cortez referee'd hopkins v calzaghe the same way he ref'd hatton v mayweather and allowed zero clinching from hopkins, how do you think it would have effected the calzaghe fight?
Still people don't realize that Mayweather-Hatton and Hopkins-Calzaghe are two completely different clashes of styles and two different fights ( with the same guy as the referee)! Hatton couldn't box on the outside with Mayweather so he had to rush in and wrestle inside to avoid being caught with some blistering right hands, funny thing being that Ricky was caught by the check hook on his way in... Hopkins gambled with Calzaghe from the outside, giving angles and counter shooting oftenly if not always, moving his body, firing shots out of defense, and clinching according to law to take away Calzaghe's superior handspeed and flurrying ability ( and finding a rest again according to law)... I don't understand what people mean - is Hopkins Hatton now b'cause he clinched or is Hopkins Mayweather cause he fought out of defense and out of the ropes?... People, Calzaghe never was close to hurt Hopkins so how can you say Bernard was not to make it to the 12th due to the ref? Just cause he took an almost full 5 minutes break after one accidental blow to the bladder. CHRIST!
A competent referee would have called a knockdown for Hopkins faking a low blow. It wasn't a slip, Hopkins went to the ground of his own volition, referee should call a knockdown and start counting.
God, look at the replay on Hopkins post-fight interview with Kellerman! He was hit under the belt so how come a ref counts a knockdown for Cal? Even Cal said he was buying time to recover! Not to mention that Enzo thought they were behind after 11... Cal won it but the fight was never close to be stopped.
No he wasn't hit at all. Hopkins went down faking a low blow to try to get a point deducted, Cortez told him to get up and Hopkins did so and carried on. You're talking about a different incident.
Mr. Cobbler, I challenge you to review the fight and check if the incident we're both talking about is not the one shown, replayed twice and commented on by Bernard Hopkins himself with Max Kellerman at ringside after the fight. There were many illegal punches during the fight but the three meaningful low blows were in the 2nd round from Calzaghe, in the 10th and that is the one replayed after the fight ( it's easy to see that that's the one cause Calzaghe starts dancing behind Hops afterwards as he goes down) and in the 11thwith half a minute to go... What i'm saying is that I don't believe it was intentional as Hops pushes Joe's head down and he doesn't see where his left hand is going - south of the border that is -but I also believe that Bernard was pretty smart to take advantage of that. No reason for a count I must insist.
So f*** it but don't come saying what you were saying. Hopkins-Wright was much worse and Calzaghe-Salem was even worse.
