I can see where you're coming from but please elaborate on everything non-filmic that is good about him.

Decent resume, no doubt but not mind blowing IMO. I'm well aware there are far more nuances to his performance than first meets the eye.

I see him beating Johnson. Whilst I really liked your summary of all tings good about The Galveston Giant I'm still not in awe. As strong as he was on the inside I'd bet on Marciano to last the course and punch out a decision.

Prime Louis then McGrain, whichever version you think that is or that is best equipped? Does he get bombed out eventually regardless of when he gets in with The Rock? Would like to hear your thoughts on this, I've mulled it over a few times.

Louis would beat Rocky in his prime. The extra half step would do it.

Yeah I think he'd beat him to the punch, and as tough as Rocky was, I think Louis is the superior puncher in terms of speed, precision and power. Although a massive fan of Louis, I don't think he's infallible in the chin department. And as he has showed in the fights he did have, Marciano can never be counted out. He has the punch to disrupt the flow. Indefinitely.

But if we're going on a likely result I think Louis would stop him on accumulation. Marciano would be too brave here and I can't imagine him trying all out to survive, and Louis was an awesome finisher anyway.

Marciano was super tough, but despite his overlooked feints, his mastering of the crouch he fought out of and (at times)sneakiness........well it's nothing to do with what I think of Marciano but how highly of regard Louis.

As you said of Frazier recently, no ones saying hes defensive but hes good defensively FOR HIS STYLE which is an offensive one (unless I got the wrong end of the stick)

I feel the same is true of Marciano. And here, I feel he's walking into serious ****.

I'll bump this thread sometime soon and get an in-depth post going, but I don't think I'm up to the task right now. PM me if it's taking a bit too long.

I'm not entirely sure I'd favor even a prime Louis, as controversial as the thought is. It's a 50/50 fight IMO. Louis seems the ideal fighter to pick apart the pressure fighters, but he said it himself, guys who crowded him gave him less room to analyze and operate on. None were better at that than Rock, especially when you consider his own punching power and superior durability.

Exactly why I'm not certain myself. I do feel he could pull it off though.

No one for certain. I would put my money on him over all sub-200 fighters. Sure there's a handful who could win but none I would bet on.

And remember, by LB4LB, there is a difference between 185 pounds and just lumping him into the heavyweight division.

And I put him right at the edge of the top 10, which is higher than I would rank him head to head as a heavyweight.
