Floyd would get floored early, get up, and then devoured Earnie in about round eight.

If Patterson gets floored by Ernie i can't see him surviving.

Shavers a megabomb puncher. People keep bringing up "Ernie wasn't a great finisher," maybe, against guys with better chins than Patterson, (dropped Lyle, dropped Holmes, stunned Cobb, rocked Ali). His KO at the time of the Ali fight speaks for itself. I can't see Patterson 'doing a Holmes' and getting up to win, his jaw isn't not good enough, even though it was not as bad as some people say.

The punch that knocked down Lyle and Holmes KO's Patterson, he ain't getting up from those.

"His KO at the time of the Ali fight speaks for itself."

I mean KO rate at the time of the Ali fight speaks for itself.

Cheers Jowcol well it looks like your goodself and I are of a similar age! Floyd was the first fighter i was ever into i just loved his style. My father who was a merchant seaman used to bring the Ring magazine home with him,and from an early age I used to be fascinated by the fighters. I can just remember seeing film of Floyds fights against Johansson and was devastated when big bad Sonny Liston KO'd him twice in the 1st round. It was just the heart he showed after the Liston fights in the rest of his career that for me confirmed him as a great fighter. Some might have said Floyd had a glass jaw but they could never say he had a glass heart.

One last story Ron; in Sept 62, my dad and uncle Ray went downtown to watch the first Patterson-Liston fight at the Circle Theater in downtown Indy on closed-circuit. Mom told dad not to wake me up but he came into my bedroom and told me that Floyd had been stopped in the 1st round. He hugged me as I cried my eyes out...IMO boxing just doesn't hold the same mistique as it did in years past...blessings my friend....

I've got to admit mate i was devastated.I can remember one of my older brothers who worked in the shipyards in my home town was up for work at 6am,and he shouted the result of the fight up the stairs for me to hear. Was absolutely gutted!
