God damn, do fights get more exciting than that? Sure, it was pretty one sided in the end, but fists were flying, and even Mayorga was landing his fair share of big shots. Trinidad seriously ****ed him up, and this is the fight, in my opinion, that ruined Mayorga's punch resistance forever. He took so many flush shots in this fight it was insane that he didn't go down sooner than he did. The crowd got their money's worth that night, and Mayorga would never be the same fighter again. One of the worst sustained beatings I've seen in awhile.

Great fight though. Anyone who was there will never forget it.

Great lil one sided scrap, and yes, the last of Mayorgas once great chin.... i dont think anyone who should be at 147 could absorb 60% power shots from a trinidad at middleweight like that and take it like mayorga did, or ever be the same since.

Your post was spot on, it was a good event and Mayorga will live forever within the moment when he lets Trinidad unleash his legendary left hook on his chin.

    EL MATADOR!!!!!!!!!

this fight in terms of punch resistance was like dwight qwai against mathew saad muhamid .. it was one of the last times you'd see saad do what he could do at one point in his career and that's keep coming

Mayorga's ability to absorb head shots was unreal.

When he FINALLY went down, it was from bodywork.

An absolutely unparalleled exhibition of accurate power-punching. And Trinidad wasn't one bit deterred that Mayorga seemed to be shaking his shots off; he just stayed focused and workman-like and kept dealing out the punishment. Mayorga's chin was just insane.

his chin detoriorated when he lets his opponent punch him for free. this fight eventually made that chin break-down.

This is the fight to point to for those who say Tito was done after his fght with hopkins... Trinidad was fantastic for this fght and still in his prime IMO all the way into the Winky Wright fight.

Mayorga IMO doesn't have a shot chin. He's only been KO'd and shaken by ATG's...and ones with notable power.

He let Mosley tee off on him too in their fight, and was basically KO'd in the last second of the fight due to a combination of exhaustion and awesomely accurate powerpunching.

So IMO his chin is still granite.

It's up there with the best middleweight fights.Awesome fight.

I just loved Mayorga's determination in this.Somehow I wished he woulda won.

Trinidad didn't look rusty after 2 years off.

Mayorga's corner was a rainbow in this fight.

Mayorga was redhaired,Tony Gonzales wore a orange cap,Luis Leon was blonde, Rigoberto Garibaldi wore that crazy cap with the Panamanian colours and old Jimmy Glynn had white hair.

That ****er is crazy. That last hook shook him a bit for sure... not a smart idea by Mayorga at all because by the end of that round Tito had him stumbling all over the place after a right uppercut right before the bell.
