There wasn't a more exciting round all year but I've never seen such a crazy ringside. Guys getting up and shadowboxing, jumping up and down...literally. Man, I wish I was there. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM4x9YdmKeI[/ame]
If he had been a lot more polished, Mayorga could have been great. He was - or still is - so damn sloppy and rugged.
Yet he wasn't completely unskilled. H'e tripe up on left hooks at one point, even throwing four. Jones was like, "that's exceptionally skillful to me". Mayorga was sloppy, but he wasn't completely talentless.
I've always been a Mayorga fan, but will be the first to admit he's a horrible boxer. Great fighter, perhaps, but terrible defense (what little he tried to use), one dimensional, and cocky to a fault, but a great entertainer, and willing to lay it on the line at all times.
He wasn't completely talentless, it was just that Trinidad, Mosley, and DLH were a level above him. Great fight though I enjoyed every minute of it.
He was a very good boxer at 147, after the 2 Forrest fights he seemed to let it get to his head and became the wild man everyone knows. Go to youtube and look at some old fights he's tight with punches, good defense, and has technique.
At 147 he was pretty fearsome. All this bs about how he can't box is just hype too, anyone who saw him whack the **** out of six heads Lewis knows better.
My mate and his Girlfriend was in New York on holiday when they managed to get 2 tickets for the fight. My mate who goes to quite a few shows back in the UK said he as never seen anything like it between what was happening with the Nicaraguans and Puerto Ricans in the toilets. He said it was a pitched battle with knives and other weapons being banded about and he was that scared he pissed in a cup than rather get caught up with it.
Love the guy behind King jumping up and down like a lunatic after Mayorga gives Tito them free shots. :rofl:rofl:rofl
