Just wondering. One of the few to quit with his money and his health; was he ever tempted?

    Ere

Boxer Michael Spinks contemplated a comeback at age 36, five years after he was knocked out by Mike Tyson. "I earned about $24 million in my career, and even after taxes and expenses I'm so well fixed I'll never be in need. But I miss having a goal, working hard, trying to be good at something. I'm still a young man. There's no reason I can't have that again."

I wonder what happened. Did he come to his senses or maybe couldn't get a fight?

Not sure at this point. We'll see if someone else knows in the next day. I'd never find my article unfortunately.

I dont think he ever seriously thought about it...Just gave cagey responses to journalists that pestered him and which ended up being taken as a maybe .

Apparantly when Larry had his little comeback it did peak the interest of Spinks and Butch Lewis. I read some articles where Mike says he was basically bored and couldnt find anything to fill his life with after boxing. But Ive read plenty where he expresses his concern about old fighters making comebacks, his brothers many comebacks for example.

He truly never needed to come back to fight though...as that article points out. He was very smart with his cash money.

after reading this and another article i found i have a great respect for michael spinks beyond the ring, and i consider him a top 3 lhw all-time. he is very mature, in control of his ego and seems to be peaceful and content. the ability to set aside his ego is virtually unheard of by past boxing greats, whether they are real (like him) or somewhat fictional (like the local ex-golden glove champ we all know).

They were going to throw a ton of oney at him to fight Holyfield either just before he won the belt or early in Evander's reighn.

I'm glad he didn't come back but I can't help feel a little disappointed at his effort against Tyson. Like many others I thought he had a good chance and that at least it would be a competitive fight.

As far as I'm aware, he did think about it seriously for a while. This was around '91 or so if memory serves.
What prevented him from doing so (according to reports anyway) was that he was still having problems with his knees, and this effectively derailed any comeback plans before they really got off the ground.
