Would appreciate feedback on this question, as I have tried to find out many times, but I cannot get a fair perspective. Did Chris Eubanka dn Nigel benn get suitbale US coverage, and were they big numbers across the pond, and across thr world?
Don't know about the numbers but the rematch was on Showtime. Could never find a copy of the Showtime telecast though.
I saw several Benn fights telecasted either live or same day here in New York:Benn vs. Eubank,Collins,Watson,Barkley,McClellan. The coverage was quite suitable due to Benn's crowd pleasing style.
Cheers lads. Why did they hate Eubank when he pratically lived stateside? He was a great fighter. Any other views or numbers peps?
these 2 fighters weren't american, they were eurobums, they did not deserve coverage, infact who the **** are they?
Benn-Watson was live on NBC! Benn-DeWitt and Benn-Barkley were live on ABC. Next time was Benn-Gent, ABC, where Alex Wallau and the other guy were going positively bonkers when calling it. Then Benn had half-a-dozen fights under King on Showtime. I think Amparo, Quinones and Williams fights were on ESPN live. He had no coverage pre-Watson and marginal coverage in certain areas in his ProBox days for Matchroom (Eubank loss through to his first few WBC wins). Eubank's last amateur fight was on ABC and his pro debut on SportsChannel America. Next was the Benn rematch on Showtime, barring the ProBox show in certain areas of America, which I don't think was even live, usually FoxSports picked that up. Close II was on Showtime, America didn't see him again until Thompson II - which was live on ESPN 2.
Haha, thanks for the info, much appreciated. As for Eurobum, Eubank was practically schooled, trained and made in the States. He is so American, his son has even won a prestigious Golden Gloves award! Crazy Euros huh?
It's true that Eubank turned his life around in New York City (The Bronx!) and learned to box over there in the 80s. He returned home to England when his mentor Adonis Torres passed away in '87.
