Scott Belshaw looked completely lacking any sort of confidence and went to ground every time Larry even threatened to land. There was a man who shouldn't have been in the ring at all, his head didn't look right from the off. I was really shocked at that performance considering the talk beforehand, I thought Scott had done some good work with Eames in the gym and now he will become a gatekeeper of the division. If he boxes again.
that chump Billy Lyle has been given a crack at Sylvester... http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/jan/23/lyell-gets-championship-bout/?newswatch Hopefully Duddy can use this as fuel for the fire tonight...

True, but if he'd beaten Lyell would he have got the shot instead? Often these people pick a weak opponent for a handy defence. Remember when Scott Pemberton beat Omar Sheika twice, a few years back? When Jeff Lacy was making the next defence of his IBF belt who got the job? Sheika! Duddy hasn't beaten any reasonable opposition of late and I would like to see him get a rated opponent next or maybe nudge his way in for an eliminator. For fairness reasons of course and we all know that boxing is always fair :tired
I doubt Duddy would have taken it even if he was offered it. I doubt he'll go down the route of eliminaters either. I think he'll take the path of least resistance until he can cash in with a big name fight, but he still has to start stepping it up. Fighting 8 rounders with mexican bums is not going to do anything for him.
Theres no real reason for Duddy to be kicking himself. He hasn't shown himself capable of beating opposition to the level of Sylvester. The main thing he should be worried about is sharpening himself up and making whatever improvements he can. Whatever his peak is (and it may well be a long way short of true world level) he needs to find it before he gets in the ring with one of the top men in the division. This seems inevitable as Duddy is very marketable and has good support, from a promoters point of view, as well as being very crude and limited from a defending champions point of view.
IABA Open Youth Competition round-up Friday, 22 January 2010 The IABA Open Youth Competition edged a step closer to completion with twelve quarter-finals at the National Stadium in Dublin tonight. Declan Milligan recorded a 6-1 win over Noel Keogh. Impressive Ryston flyweight Chris Phelan followed that up with a convincing decision over Myles Casey of the Our Lady of Lourdes club in Limerick. Tonight's card saw Sean O'Neill come from behind to edge out his St Saviours OBA clubmate Shane Roche in an up tempo last eight duel. O'Neill was 1-0 at the end of the first round and despite taking a 3-2 lead in the second found himself 4-3 in arrears at the end of that frame also. However, three unanswered points in the final stanza, one courtesy of a superb right hook - secured the win. Meanwhile, Ryan Burnett recorded a 3-1 decision over Stevie Quinn, the rangy Eastside taking two standing counts in the third round of an all-Belfast duel. Limerick's Christy O'Donnell showed some good offensive skills in the opening bantamweight contest of the evening in the first round. However, Glen Brogan claimed the next two frames to record a well deserved victory. There were wins also for Anthony Hartley, Glen Holmes, George Bates, the impressive Daryl Fitzgerald and Ryston featherweight John Joe Nevin, who out-gunned Sean McComb in an excellent 57kg clash. Michael Glendenning and Michael McDonagh won the final two bouts of the evening. The Open Youth Championships resume tomorrow with two sessions beginning at 2.30pm and 6.30pm. The weigh-in will be held between 8.30am and 9.30am at the National Stadium. The IABA are using the Open Youth Competition as part of their selection process for April's AIBA World Youth Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan. duddys fight wont be televised by HBO tonight, its one of the un-televised bouts.duddy at this point is just a cash cow to bump up the ticket sales for bob arum.nothing more.its a shame really he should have gone down the ronald hearns route which was being talked up.instead hes lost 2 billy lyell, and lost all credibitlity.and fighting this guy tonight in an 8 rounder is not going to get that back
As Cormac has said on here the irish-boxing.com awards show was tonight in Belfast and I just got a text from a mole on the inside with some of the awards results. Boxer of the Year - Bernard Dunne Prospect of the Year - Carl Frampton Domestic champion of the Year - Eddie Hyland Coach of the Year - John Breen
No arguments there at all. Good bit of recognition for Eddie Hyland who is probably the premier domestic level fighter in the country (and I mean no offence by that). Also nice to see Bernard didn't get overlooked because he lost to Poonsawat. John Breen is a superb trainer and deserving of the award although I think his protege Magee might give him a run for his money in years to come.
