:deal This. I think it would have been a chess match type of fight. Would have been a fascinating clash of styles and would also have been a pure boxing display by both combatants.

I agree with the thread starter. I was actually going to write a thread like this myself. When FM beat Hatton in Dec of 07, this was THE fight to be made. Cotto had just beat Judah and Mosley and this was the biggest fight in boxing at the time. The 2 best welterweights should have fought each other it is a disgrace this fight never happened. But FM never wanted anything to do with Cotto. Stylewise if Hatton gave Floyd such hell, imagine what Cotto would do? I hope this fight can still be made next year after FM fights Pac

Nah i doubt it. Cottos taken A LOT of punishment lately and the demand for that fight isnt what it was. You never know though. If Cotto beats Foreman in an impressive fashion interesting stuff can happen.

Arum never ever wanted Cotto to fight PBF. It would have been a great Match-up but I see it ending the way Floyd Beat the Ricky Hatton and eventually would dominate. Once PBF figures you out he makes the adjustments needed and it is game over. Cotto is a great fighter but his style is to straight forward and an easy target that PBF would pick apart.

    Margarito
    Cotto
    Williams

    You can blame Floyd

    But for Pacquiao, Mosley.

Its both Manny and Shane's fault for the fight not materializing.

    Like he had a choice.

Marg, Pac, Clottey are all Arum fighters

    Marg v Clottey
    Cotto vs Marg
    Cotto vs Pac
    Pac vs Cotto
    Pac vs Clottey

See a pattern and what are people already talking about being next if Pac gets by Clottey...............Pac vs Marg.

Forget Floyd, how many of these guys have faced Williams or Mosley?

Haha, I like how its immediately Floyds fault. Just possibly like at 140, Arum wasn't going to let one of his guys get beat and ruin all that future money.

At the time Mayweather was suing Arum for money owed. They are really going to sit down and discuss more business. Damn, they hate each other now still, years later.

You also forgot Cotto vs Mosley:good I also would have guess we could've probably seen a Williams vs Cotto if Quintana didnt defeat Williams the first time around.

Would've loved to have seen this fight. I think Floyd would've taken it. You don't beat a guy like Floyd when you're a one handed fighter who lacks speed, defense, and a chin. Even though Floyd is not a big puncher, he would've been discouraging Cotto's attack all night with his counters. That left hook from Cotto would've been rendered useless and he would've lost a clear decision. There's a good reason that Arum never pushed for this fight once Floyd left him.

Cotto has a killer jab, pre-margo Cotto was a force as welterweight. I don't give a **** what people think, he would have dished out some punishment to floyd's arms and hips.

Arum, Cotto and his team ALL claimed that Cotto was "too green" to fight Floyd. Cotto literally looked horrified while he sat ringside at the Money/Gotti fight. No wonder Cotto was terrified at the notion of a fight w/ Money.
