is he done.....is the skill level so eroded that he cant produce quality contests at the elite level? can he make a comeback change things and improve? or should he retire now that he has some money. Would you watch, can he still bring excitement to boxing. Pretend you are the Manager what would you do?
Geez, I don't know what question to answer. If his heart is stilll in it, he can still bring fans and excitement to the sport. I just don't want to see him take heavy punishment again. Definitely though, he needs a new trainer.
I would have liked to see him with Jan Zaveck instead. Easier fight, get a belt, get back in the WW mix. Then perhaps take on a top opponent to end his career in style. A loss against Yuri Foreman would be a bad way to end the career.
its actually an interesting situation cotto is in if you think about it... he's fighting foreman. now, i'm skeptical about how he will look at 154. foreman is a slippery **** but he has feather fists. cotto has looked good early in both of his losses before eventually being broken down. this probably won't happen against foreman. therefore, cotto stands a very good chance to beat him imo and pick up a title. now consider that williams/cintron is on the table but as of yet unsigned (unless NBA has any info to the contrary). when williams beats cintron and IF cotto can get by foreman, there is a major money fight there for cotto. he will get his ass handed to him by paul but if he's going to cash out...there's your scenario.
Cotto aint shot he just got his arse handed to him by the best fighter in the world, i have every confidence he will come back stronger
Fight isn't signed yet. Just a bunch of talk right now. But this is clearly in my opinion the best option for Paul, Cintron, and Cotto. And yes. @ 154 it's no contest. Cotto would get pummeled (again)
he doesnt need a new trainer he needs a new heart and more dedication to the sport.. boxing is not kind to undicipline boxers.. this is a sport where you have to give it your all.. and agains yuri foreman it should be an easy win for him.. if foremen beats him then he should retire.. that mofo cant hit for ****.... if he fights foremean and wins maybe he gets a little more confidence in him and then he can make a couple more big fights and retire
He has heart, he did show that against Pac. I just don't think he has that killer instinct, Tony stole that from him, and I don't think he will get it back.
it pisses me off that people are writing him off so quickly because of the pac fight when the fight before that he had a hell of a performance against clottey who is world class & tough as nails.
I don't want to see Cotto fight Williams. Bad, bad matchup for him. I'd rather see him take on Cintron. I think he can probably do it regardless of how he fares against Foreman, who I do think he beats, but barely.
IMo Cotto is not done. But I do think that he must be managed in the right way for the rest of his career. I think hes been in wars and has taken a lot of punishment. I would hate to see him punch drunk after his career, hes a class act, who reps the sport very well.
wink crushes cotto. to be honest, i dont see cotto being effective at 154. there are however a few nobodies in the top ten, but the popular fighters will give him fits. and lets face it, cotto's on the tail end of his career, and he's trying to make all the money he can, therefore he's not going to waste his time fighting "nobodies". i even see spinks out classing him (easily). personaly i think he's too small to bang w/ JMWs. in the end i think he'll end up like gatti "a fighter w/o a weight class".
