Calzaghe says he will stay at 168 for Pavlik!

I agree, except I don't think they cared too much who won Taylor-Pavlik. By that point, Pavlik had enough hype to be as much a cash cow as Taylor.

 

There is delusion in both directions in this thread. The delusion of Calzaghe fans comes when they claim he is as powerful as Pavlik at 168 atschatsch

 

Well, well, well...I see once again we are misjudging "the Ghost." The guy that beat the Middleweight Champion of the World, Jermaine Taylor. The same Jermain Taylor that beat icons like Bernard Hopkins, "Winky" Wright, and a very good junior middleweight fighter in Cory Spinks. Although the Hopkins and Wright fights could have gone the other way, Jermain Taylor still won, and retained the belt. Everybody voiced they're opinion that there was no way on God's green Earth that Pavlik would have any chance of even lasting 12 rounds, and that Taylor's boxing skills were far past those of Pavlik's. Pavlik anhilliated Taylor in the seventh round, with power punches. So much for Taylor's great skills. Pavlik knocked Bronco McKart out, before that Bronco McKart never hit the canvas, beat Zuniga, who is a very good boxer, wasn't supposed to beat Miranda, who was already talking about his bout against Taylor that never happened. That being said, bet against "the Ghost," and go broke. See if I care. Who has Joe Calzaghe beat, besides an inexperienced Jeff Lacy, who he wouldn't leave his own country to fight. If he wants t o fight America's best, then I suggest that he mope his sorry ass over here, and fight in the good ol' US of A. Not taking away anything from his talent, Calzaghe is a very good fighter. But to be the best, you've got to beat the best. I may be wrong, but who has he beat again? This is not to offend anybody, all I am saying, is to give Pavlik his due.

 

Calzaghe always seems so desperate to fight middleweights. How about going up to light heavy to fight Dawson or Woods?

 

Or even Diaconu or Bute. Just don't be tryin to finally show you're a bad ass by calling out dudes from lower divisions.:deal

Yes, he was very nearly destroyed.

He was hit flush with one, maybe two shots (check meaning of FLUSH). If he'd been in with either of Kessler or Calzaghe, it would have been lights out.

That said, he must be given great praise for picking his ass up of the canvas and going on to score a win by a spectacular KO.

But Taylor is not Calzaghe.

 

Jack Dempsey would not ko him in 1. Dempsey was also a heavy. Nevertheless former small men like Tunney and (a guy whose name I have somehow forgotten) survived him.

Langford, Foster and Moore are NO WAY sure things to get him done.

I would not bet that any of these names could take Eubank out. Dempsey maybe but none of the others.

Eubank is not a perfect fighter but his durability is stupid.

If you want to be SMART then NEVER bet on Eubank being ko'd.

It hasnt happened to Calzaghe, cause slappy Joe fights bums. His previous two fight were against "contenders" bro, reality tv stars!

After reviewing several Calzaghe and Pavlik fights, in my most honest and humble opinion, Calzaghe would defeat Pavilk by TKO.

Pavlik hasn't fought anyone on Calzaghe's skill level. Yes, Taylor is a good fighter and the best fighter Pavlik has fought to date, but I believe Calzaghe is a grade or two above Taylor in regard to overall boxing skill and experience. Pavlik's boxing style is predictable, Calzaghe's is not. Has anyone noticed Pavlik methodically leans in with his left foot and takes two steps before he throws a jab with a straight right or right hook? Calzaghe would exploit this flaw. How can anyone predict Calzaghe's style? They can't.

Both Calzaghe and Pavlik appear to have decent chins, however the edge must go to Calzaghe. I do question Pavlik's chin after he was knocked down and seemingly troubled in the second round by Taylor who isn't known to be a big puncher. Pavlik was offset by Taylor's speed not "power." Calzaghe has just as much speed if not more than Taylor, while possessing a fair amount of power for a SMW - certainly more power than Taylor who was muscled around by a couple Jr. Middleweights. How could Pavlik handle the speed and power of a natural SMW such as Calzaghe?

I can envision Calzaghe throwing numerous body punches and quick combinations from various angles that would frustrate and ultimately stop the flat footed and slow Pavlik. Pavlik would reach Calzaghe with his long jab from time to time, but not enough to do any serious damage IMO. How can you hurt what you can't hit? Pavlik's defense vs Calzaghe's defense? You know the answer to this already.

If Calzaghe hasn't slowed down to any significant degree he would beat Pavlik convincingly.

Perhaps it would be best for Pavlik to remain in the Middleweight division rather than seeking greener pastures at SMW or Lt. Heavy.

 

Pavlik, Bute or Dawson - its all good enough for me. However, since I feel that Kessler will beat Calzaghe on the 3rd - I think that these are the fights for him.

Maybe as history has shown - alot of people will try and get Calzaghe after his defeat. He will still be recognized as a prize fighter, but alot will then feel that he is beatable(Only think that Kessler will be able to - but nonetheless). Calzaghe will also be more keen to get his hands on something big once again - promptly.

Personally I would favour matches vs Dawson or Bute over Pavlik, because afterall JC is more of a LHW than Pavlik is a SMW.
