The punch is used to for one reason.......To make your opponent look stupid. Hopkins vs. Pavlik round 7 was hysterical.
I never knew exactly what it is, but from how people describe it - a "hookercut", take a look at the shot Pacquiao knocked Cotto down with in the 4th round.
and to think, SRR beat Gavilan and Armstrong even before winning a title. Albeit a past prime Armstrong.
Ceferino Garcia kd or ko'd several opponents with his BOLO punch since he fought 142 fights with 67 ko's.
when srr did it diddnt he do kind of a more winding up motion before throwing it or maybe its some one else im thinking of
It's not a hookercut at all, and the punch Pacquiao hit Hatton with was nothing like a bolo punch. Jose Napoles made some of the best use of this punch. He actually threw his with proper follow through and leverage. He'd wait until the right hand was thrown, step back out of range and counter with a follow through, looping bolo straight up toward the chin.
Vitali throws something between a hook and uppercut all the time but he doesnt do the wind up motion with it.
Kid Gavilan was best known for it. Sugar Ray Leonard would use it on occasion, but mostly for show than damage. He even managed to do it vs. Hagler.
:good Ray Leonard landed one (Of sorts) to the body of Hagler, I was 13 and thought it was the greatest thing i'd ever seen in a ring!!
