Comebacking Foreman or young Foreman?

 

That Douglas could win a UD over 90s George imo, not the version who faced Holyfield though

 

Douglas was tall and had a good jab and footwork. He would beat 90's Foreman but he wouldnt beat young Foreman.

 

Isn't the version who faced Holyfield a "90's version" though?

 

I think he meant Douglas who showed up against Holy.

 

I actually thought about this the day after Douglas KO'd Tyson. Some possible match-ups that I put together outside of Holyfield were Douglas vs Ruddock, Witherspoon, Dokes and yes even Foreman. My first inclination was that George wasn't going to get through that Jab of Douglas, especially after seeing him get tagged by the jab quite a bit in the first round of the Cooney fight a month earlier. Looking back however, I do think that Foreman had a good chance at scoring a knockout, and even keeping things farely close on the cards. Douglas really only looked good on a few occasions in his career, and most of them coming against ill-prepared opposition. The Foreman who easily KO'd Rodriguez and battled 12 rounds with Holyfield, would have my vote to get a win in one capacity or another.

the douglas who KO'd tyson that night, would be far too much for ANY incarnation of george foreman. he had fast hands a comparable reach and could keep turning and turning, changing angles and punching in combination whenever tyson steped into range, if he could beat tyson to the draw he would beat george to the draw x2.

 

lmao could you imagein what the young foreman would do to him? .. douglas would have been standing in his corner .. "hold on mama i'ma comin!.. this big angry black man is gonna beat me like a ****ing egg"

 

forman had heavy hands and he never had a problem landing on anyone at any stage of his career. the guy had natural radar. For those reasons id give george a chance against anyone.
however, douglas on that one night was almost super human. he handed the best fighter in the world his ass that night. Tyson was a phenomenon at that time. schmeling beat louis by exploiting a flaw. douglas used a whole box of tricks on tyson, he just had an answer for evrything tyson ever had. it was a one off performance, even got up off the floor to do it.

 

I think George would win. Douglas was just too unpredictable when he got hurt. He was close to staying on the canvas when Tyson knocked him down in the 8th round. He stayed down with Evander, and with George he would have been hit and probably quit. His win against Mike was great, but that was more Mike taking for granted the sport of boxing than anything else. Buster did fight a great fight that day though.

 

This is how I feel as well... Douglas beating an unprepared or unmotivated Tyson does not seal the deal for me that he'd beat other great fighters of even that time frame. For every decent or good win that Douglas had, there were a fair number of losses that were basically ****.. This has to way just as much into the equation as the good stuff.

 

Exactly. I think potential he showed with Tyson his potential, but mentally he was not championship caliber. I remember with Holyfield he was knocked down and he was focusing on his gloves and he stayed down. I don't know how that would handle 12 rounds of Foreman in either of Foreman's careers.

 

Big George looked his best win his opponents leads and came to him. The best Douglas didn't fight the way George liked his opponents to fight. Douglas could be very mobile for a big man, and had an educated jab that was faster and longer than Georges'. Buster had the style to beat George, and I believe on the night he beat Tyson, he could have one. That is the only time, though.
