If Mayweather Wins via Jab And Move, Is he ATG?

Agree 100%, to me this is a big fight for his "legacy", he has no excuse to lose to 38 year old Mosley.Shane has been good for a long time, sometimes great but I think prime Mosley would probably not beat 32 year old Mayweather.But it is boxing & you never know .
Floyd needs to fight with some more passion & agression to move up in ATG rating`s ,I hope that`s the case as the fight would be more enjoyable to watch.Hopefully the long rivalry with Mosley leads to a fight.

 

Well gee, if he can beat a future HOF'er Shane Mosley just by jabbing and moving then yes, he's an ATG

 

It depends what you consider an ATG and how long a list you are willing to make to get him onto the list. Floyd mayweather is not and probably never will be an ATG Welterweight as you ask. Regardless of what happens. Yes an absolute destruction of Mosley would do good things for his case to be as such. But mainly because destruction is not his way. Being able to show that he can do that to a big welterwieght would be impressive. However I still won't rate him as an ATG welterweight because although he is truely one of the greatest talents to ever fight at Welterweigth his overall size, punching power he has demonstrated at the weight (mainly do to his greater tendancy to throw punches while backing up, more defensive tactics, hand protecting gloves and fewer combinations); coupled with his durability (which is less then many great much bigger WWs before him) would cause me to rate him too low in the head to head against other ATGs like Tommy Hearns and the Sugars (Leonard and Robinson) to consider him a great at the weigth.


That being said Do not mis understand what I am saying about floyd. I am simply refering to his rating at WW. FM at 135 is p4p the best fighter I have ever seen in my entire life. He is better then SLR was at WW and he is better then Ali was at HEavyweight. He is in my opinion one of the top 10 fighters p4p of all time (note ---> P4P <-------). When I was younger and Floyd was in his prime I used to resent him for always calling himself the greatest without ever wanting to fight the bigger Welterweigth. But honestly the more I look at how brilliant he is in the ring and especially how brilliant he was a lightweight the more I realize he probably has a point when he calls himself the greatest. He really makes no mistakes in the Ring, never loses his composure, telegraphs no punches and has pretty much perfect technique for everything he does. Prime for Prime at 135 he would have school pacquiao. If pac man finds a way to beat the tests and they sign the fight I'm not so sure the same applies at WW.

 

unfortunately yeah. Floyd came back and signed some 3 fight deal i think, so that's in good order. He has time to not just silence the critics but maybe convert them. Shane, Pacquiao 1 and 2, Berto, Williams perhaps. even if he doesn't knock them out but shows serious boxing skill, he'd be like Michael Jordan come out of retirement.

 

I was actually wanting him to fight PW. I like Shane and dont want to see two of my favorite fighters face off. I also think PW is in a weak mind stane right now and i think PBF can do what Martinez did to him but get hit much less than Martinez did and take a somewhat wide UD. I can live with Floyd vs. Shane though.

 

The man has power. He has one puch KO power(Vargas II, who is a big guy). He had his share of devastating KO's. Shane KO'd like 32 of his first 35 opponents.

Yes true, but what about the vicious shot to Oba Carr? That was devastating. And the last second shot "jump in left hook" on Mayorga on the last second was quite nice. I know that Vargas and Mayorga werent prime but there wont be many fighters stepping up to the plate to knock em out cold.

 

Lol...now floyd has to fight "out of his style" cuz a "stick and move" seems to be to easy....let me put it like this...floyd gonna make it a "boxing match"..he isn't stupid enough to engage mosley..what your saying he should do would result in taking "him out of his game"....if he can win by "not fighting his game" than fine...but if he can get the w the easiest way than why not...cuz it would be to easy and he "always gets the decision"??? If thats the case than the opponents should be working harder to get the w cuz they cant get him out of his fight game..

Him winning an exciting war rather than a dull one-sided decision isn't going to change my opinion much on whether or not he is an ATG.

It's a matter of getting the job done, not being exciting.
