The numerous different sanctioning bodies are seriously harming the sport, if there was one sanctioning body, Mayweather-Pacquiao would have had to happen, Pacquiao would have had to take a drugs test, boxing would have the potential to become as popular as it was decades ago.

It's probably a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas as to how to get rid of or bring together all the sanctioning bodies?

McCain had an interesting proposal to federalize a boxing commission which would of ultimately lead to 1 sanction, but its not a big issue to congress atm and boxing fans arent throwing as much support for it as they should because they cant see behind the fact that hes a Republican.

You could make an online petition but those are ten a penny and will have no effect.

It's never going to change. Too much money and too many gangsters in boxing.

Its never going to change, to many greedy people trying to suck the sport dry. Maybe the networks in the future will just have their own belts and ignore the sanctioning bodies.

Either they somehow all merge (lol yea right)

Or someone buys them and forces them not to start a new organization.

BUT - The only good thing that comes from these organizations is that they have those crap worthless titles like WBA Pan America title etc..

It allows big fights that don't have an actual title on the line but 12 rounds.

Around 30 someyears ago, the IBF was formed , supposedly, to be the anti WBA & WBC.
It was going to be the uncorruptable, honest , non-biased sanctioning body to end all sanctioning bodies. Well, we all know what happened to that fantasy.
In every human endevour, there is bound to be dishonesty, greed, and corruption. There will always be the wink, the extended hand, the shady dealings.
Get rid of the present multiple , corrupt sanctioning bodies, and more will rise from the ashes.
You couldn't get rid of them any more than you can get rid of the clouds and sky.

We can't change the current organizations. The only hope would be to create a new one that puts lots of exciting young fighters on their rolls and out-market the other organizations on the local channels (ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX). Keep all the fights off pay-per-view so there's a bigger audience.

I got $8.50 to pitch in. Anyone else in?

    3 BELTS COUNT

If we atleast could get it down to that, we would be a long way.

IBF, WBA & WBC should go together and put a 24 month ban on any boxer in the world that fought for any other world championship belt.

    • Tennis got the Gran slams
    • Golf the majors
    • Boxing 3 belts

I got an idea. Im sure it would work too if we had people working on it.

WE would need to get some scientists to work on a cure for greedyness in mankind.
Then and only then we would have just one organization.

    Bigger sports do it.

Football(biggest sport in the world) = FIFA
    Tennis = ATP

If the 3 org. sat down and made a deal, they could get reed off the rest...

Can't be done because it is in the interests of boxers and promoters to have multiple organisations.

If you somehow merged them all into one today, someone would just set up a new one tomorrow.

Richard Schaefer was interviewed in Boxing Monthly recently and he said this was one of his big dreams for the future of boxing. His idea was to merge all 4 sanctioning bodies and have their president be in charge of a certain part of the world; Suliaman would be in charge of the Americas, the WBO pres in charge of Europe etc.

It could only conceivably happen if the tv networks, managers and fighters somehow forced the issue. Much as I'd love it to happen, unfortunately it won't.

Only three ways to do it: either they all merge on their own and form 1 super sanctioning body, national commissions take over and force them to come together, or somebody with lots of money to potentially lose forms their own sanctioning body and puts the rest out of business.

I actually did a little thinking about how the third one would have to go one time. It would take a lot of money and a lot of time, but it might not be as hard as you'd think...
