Why do people say that Wlad needs to fight Peter to be champ?

Wlad is clearly the best heavyweight in the world. He has completely destroyed his last four challengers and has improved significantly since the Peter fight.
Chagaev is next best, then take your pick from Ibragimov,Peter,Maskaev

Thats not saying much, considering the state of the Heavywieght division and its lack of good opposition.

I wasn't aware that any one said he needed to beat Peter. He needs to beat Maskaev and Chagaev to be the champ.

After the performance vs. McCline and getting outboxed by Klitschko and losing the first fight vs. toney, Peter shouldn´t definitely be ranked above one of the other titleholders (Chagaev, Ibragimov, Maskaev).

    exactly.

    1. Peter's belt isn't the real IBF belt.

    2. The other beltholders had to fight someone to win them.

    3. After Peter's last showing I think he's lucky to be ranked at #5 where I have him :D

I just read you post & that's exactly how I have them ranked as well. I have Valuev at #6 and the rest change from day to day but include Thompson, Virchis, Byrd & Povetkin, even though Alexander has only a few fights.

    Um, no. :nono

Sultan beat Briggs to get his belt, Peter got his belt by default, and it's not the real WBC belt but more of a gaurantee that he'll be the real beltholder Oleg's next defense.

If a guy punks out from fighting you thats not your fault, if Peter keeps winning you cant drop him down in rankings.

Sultan is far from impressive, Toney was able to knockout Holyfield why couldnt Sultan do it? Sultan did nothing special in his fight against a 45 yearold Holyfield.

First of, alo, new to esb forums.

Anyway, I dont think its really peter thats an issue. I think it would be nice if wlad just tried to be more active, and actually fight some people with a pulse. instead of just taking it easy and fighting weak mandatories like austin. and the brewster fight was a joke. As far as ive seen wlad has made no real attempt to unify the tittles, and i think that is inexcusable. wlad is such a draw, im sure he could make fights happen with any of the other champs.

Chageav has been WAY too inactive, same with Maskaev, and both beat jokers to get belts anyhow.

Ibragimov has put on two of the worst heavyweight championships in recent memory his last two outings.

...but all of them are more deserving than Peter right now for a shot at Wlad.

Welcome to ESB, I cant blame Wlad for the fights he did fight. Austin was mandatory that was not his choice, Brewster was an exciting choice of oppenents considering Brewster starching him the last time they fought in 04.

Its hard to really blame Wlad for the oppenents he fought, he will start fighting better fighters soon I think. Look for him to take on a tough oppenent in jan or feb of next year.

In other news, Maskaev will defend his WBC title against Samuel Peter on February 2nd at Madison Square Garden.

for me it's chagaev. he's what peter should have been. a solid power house, but unlike peter, ruslan takes his training seriously and also has very good skills.

he also fought a string of quality opposition on his way up, and then outboxed the far larger, heavier and undefeated valuev. and even stunned the giant on a couple occassions which is no easy feat.

also he has a victory over sultan in the olympics i believe, and has not had hot and cold performances like sultan. also his draw with virchis is better than sultan's draw with austin!

considering he is also still young for a heavyweight, and has a solid chin compared to maskaev (and also the suspect jaw of ibragimov), i rate him no2. easy.

maskaev might have been no2. at one stage but nearly 39-40 years old with injuries starting to show up, and quite stiff legged plus weak chinned, i see ruslan outboxing maskaev and possibly scoring a tko in the mid/late rounds.

verses sultan i think he'll control the boxing by aggression and test that chin of sultan's regularly. either sultan will play it safe and lose a decision or get dropped and stopped by ruslan late.

to me chagaev seems to have gotten swept under the radar lately which is odd. everyone looks to povetkin to clean out the division, but the only one i think has the toolset to threaten wladimir is ruslan, not povetkin.

having said that i still see chagaev, povetkin, maskaev, sultan all losing to wladimir. peter wont set foot inside the ring with wladimir again if his management have any say in the matter

I like Chagaev but power house hes not, he like Peter has never knocked out a top 20 oppenent. Virichis, Ruiz, and Valuev all were tough close fights that could went either way. I think both Peter and Chagaev still have alot to prove, dont you think?
