The annoying thing with a lot of these Duran huggers is they end up making you slag him off, Duran's one of my favourite fighters but he wasnt a better boxer than Leonard at welterweight, I dont know why that is so difficult to comprehend.

    Roy who ?..... Jones ?
What does he have to do with anything ? :huh

I think you misunderstood me, I wasnt talking H2H vs everybody, I was talking H2H vs each other, Leonard beats Duran 9 times out of 10 IMO.

Ps. I dont think Leonard would beat Roy, the size would likely be the deciding factor but I wouldnt rule it out & he is more complete than Roy & deservedly ranks higher p4p.

As far as I'm concerned, if Duran is entitled to his excuses...so is Ray Leonard.

Do you think Frazier was a better fighter than Ali because he beat him when both were closes at his best? I don't think so. Same here. I think Leonard was the better welterweight, I have him Top3-5 while I rate Duran barely in the Top20, but Duran beat Leonard when both were at their bes and I would pick him to repeat ha again and again.
There are just times when a fighter is possesed. Frazier-Ali I, Duran-Leonard, Dempsey-Willard and so on.

I personally don't see how anyone can say without any doubt whatsoever that Duran would have always beaten Leonard...when their first fight was so competitive and close. :think

It was close but clear. And that Duran just would not lose to Leonard. Any other version would but not that one. Just like the Frazier of 71 would never ever lose o any version of Ali.

Well I disagree with that. I think Ali pre-exile spends a lot less time on the ropes and more time jabbing Frazier's face. He clearly wasn't the same after the exile, and I don't expect even Ali's biggest detractors to dispute that.

No version of Duran beats the Leonard of that 2nd fight & no version of Frazier beats the Ali of 66/67.

Look how close & brutal for the loser AND WINNER that these fights were, now stick in a smarter Leonard using the one style Duran was never comfortable with - even at LW when guys without Leonard`s size or firepower frustrated him for spells, those men were Viruet & Bizzaro.... & a faster, more fluid Ali with better stamina & not lacking match practice.

    Think about it !

It's almost mpossible to get a non-agenda driven conversation going when both Duran and Leonard are involved.Or hagler.just too many fanboys.

I don't like it when we try and put Leonard and Duran in the same boat either. Ray doesn't have a fanboy in the classic does he? Duran on the other hand is among the majority's top favorite fighters in history. This isn't speculation, we've had a thread profile this on many different occasions. Duran's losses are backed up with excuses, whereas Leonard isn't allowed his. I freely admit that Duran wasn't the same for Leonard II, but neither was Ray.

Christ, just read this thread. Both sides are as bad as each other when it comes to excuses.Lots of posters have like Leonard more than Duran, even with Duran being more popular.

Leonard does have more of the creepy deviant types like Rooster and MrMarvel doing nothing but lay into him, mind you.

Oh, and Rivaldo was no Mostovoi.;)

yea, i think its safe to say that duran in the classic forum is like pac in the general forum. everyone speaks with their heart and not theirs minds making it obnoxious to have a decent debate
