Cool post Lax. You like the boxers of the 1980's I can see. So do I. That time had special boxers and the era was special. What is sad about Tony Ayala is that he would have probably beaten Davey Moore, and that would have changed the whole Junior Middleweight landscape. Then Ayala might have fought either Duran or Hearns and those fights would have been exciting and would sell well. Ayala fought on the undercard of Leonard/Hearns 1.
Matter of opinion. If Ayala would have landed a good thumb in his fight with Moore like Duran did, maybe he would beat Moore in 8 rounds also. As far as Duran having excuses for losing all the time, so did other fighters. Moore had dental surgery and was thumbed. If that happened to Duran it would have been the main story of the fight and the loss. No one mentions that for Davey Moore.
Tony wouldn't need a thumb for Moore, he has those billyclub-like arms and fists. I think Davey lasts four rounds at most. Yes, different rules are applied to various people, based on who somebody is. Double standards, anybody?
Damn Mag you are one consistent mofo.:rofl But what you just posted does contain a strong amount of truth that even the biggest Duran fan would most likely agree with. :good
Well I have thought this about Duran for 20 years so it is not just a new idea for me, but I do not enjoy saying this stuff much since I do think Duran was great, but not like most people on ESB think. When I hear stuff that his win over Moore and Barkley were just the best wins ever, I cannot help but react, but I do think he was a great fighter. Top 25 ATG. Not bad at all. But people love him so much that when they hear me say top 25 ever, that is an insult to Duran they think. But I do not say it to start arguments. I never thought top 25 ever was bad. That is pretty good in the whole history of boxing.
