khan vs prescott..his legs stiffend with a jab..it surprises me he has gone on to have some sucsess after that.
k, i'm gonna stick to the thread and not defend my boy rjj some great definitions so far but for me a glass jaw is someone who is routinely hurt by punches. not just great punches but any punch that lands and is often KOd by shots without power, precision and accuracy. Glass Jaws cannot take punishment. If a mother****er is in wars for 10 years and in year 11 gets knocked out, he got old, not glass jawed (ezzard charles for instance). it's REALLY tough to pinpoint any of these cause we ain't in the ****ing ring and we don't really know what kind of shot they are taking for shits and giggles I'll say that Khan appears to have a glass jaw and Bob Satterfield could be on the list
I wouldn't just define 'glass jaw' as someone who is hurt regularly by punches. Yes, a boxer with a 'glass jaw' is probably more likely to be knocked out, or knocked down and hurt badly. But i'd put boxers in this category if they have a tendacy to be knocked down, NOT necessarily hurt, but if they are hit clean on the jaw for example, they lose control of there legs for a couple of seconds and possibly knocked down. Some people are saying a 'glass jaw' is when a boxer is regularly knocked down, hurt and gives up, fair enough. But take for example Cotto, I think Cotto has/had a really good punch resistance, but I think if you catch Cotto in the right spot with some decent power, he would go down. He has been knocked down a good few times in his career for a 'world class' boxer, but he always gets back up. Im not saying Cotto has a glass jaw, but Im using him as an example to show that some boxers, more so than others, if hit in the right place will go down.
A glass jaw is a fighter who does not recover from punches, some fighters have been dropped regularly in their career(Tito) but dont have what i would consider a lass jaw,its how well you recover. Evander Holyfield does not have an iron jaw imo, what he has is a very very good chin and amazing recuperative powers.
good post:goodfor me the difference is, the fighter doesn't have to get hit in the "sweet spot", or gets knocked out regularly when he does. cotto is a good example of someone who is relatively durable but not a great chin. tito is another: he was knocked down all the time, but got up every time except when he got a PROLONGED **** kicking from B Hop
Bumped (Also by this definition Roberto Duran, Gene Fullmer, and many others who are ATG's have glass jaws.
There are exceptions to every rule. And Duran was brutally stopped only once. I'm talking about guys who get knocked the **** out multiple times - somebody like, say, Hasim Rahman. ONCE, you can write it off as a fluke. More than once? You're likely talking about some chin problems.
