Well Addie it looks like 6 out of 11 rate Lopez above Marco.

Thats more than 1/2 so he is the winner:happy

 

Before first retirement, was something like 52-0 with 50 KO's. With only one "real" loss. Sad to say even the more modern Mexican fighters would have fared any better against Wlfredo Gomez at his natural weight.

 

I thought he was the best of the bunch outside of the first 3, or at least my personal fave. That and he seemed to be getting undersold in the thread. He was a natural in the ring from the age of 15 years old, very smooth and skilled at Feather and Lightweight, despite being one of the naturally biggest and strongest Featherweights that had been seen at the time. Big puncher as well. Beat an impressive list of opponents to back up his skills, IMO. Guys like Davey Moore (I'm sure we all know the story there), Mitsunori Seki, Chango Carmona, Antonio Herrera, Alfredo Urbina, Raul Rojas, Baby Vasquez, Floyd Robertson, etc. are solid to very good names to have beaten. Add to that his war with a rampaging Mando Ramos at the end of his career and I think his class as a fighter is proven. He was only a step below the true all time greats like Saldivar and Ortiz, as was proven in their bouts.

 

IVe always thought that Barrera or Morales would have done much better against Gomez than Zarate. Wasnt Zarate getting over the flu or something like that:huh
Not saying Barr,Mor would have beat Gomez but im sure they would have made it past the 5th and been highly competetive, and hell id give both of them a good shot at winning. I would rate Barrera and Morales above Pintor and he gave Gomez all he wanted.
Have to give Barrera and Morales a helluva shot here they werent moving up like Pintor and Zarate either.

 

But the Gomez who fought Pintor wasn't prime anymore. After that Sanchez savaging. But how do you rate Barrera & Morales' chances against "King Carlos" in his prime?

I wouldn't rate Barrera or Morales over Pintor below Featherweight, personally.
