This is Don King we're on about. He thinks about what is in the best interest of Don King and Don King only.
That's putting it mildly. If I recall 'War Baby' by Kevin Mitchell says that at McClellens hospital bed he told Gerald's team that he 'quit like a dog' and that was the last they saw from him.
It doesnt matter if he would of won or not, using that logic Floyd never has to fight another WW again because he could beat them all in a fantasy matchup
exactly. Benn vs McClellan was a modern classic with a tragic ending, and that is the only reason why the fight isn't referred to as such.
Benn was speaking from the heart there, he REALLY wanted Jones. I think Jones got spooked by hearing Benn say he wanted to fight him like that. Roy ducked Benn for sure, Roy only wanted to fight guys he knew posed no danger, unlike Benn who could easily have brutally knocked Roy out. Roy was talented and amazingly skilled but for sure was a bit of a fraud, much like duckweather of today.
if notice after the fight, King is on camera with Benn when Benn was getting interviewed, whilst McClellan was in the corner.
Benn was a beast. Benn would fight anyone, Jones wouldn't. I do remember Benn saying stuff about he would fight Roy for free.
I'm pretty sure I remember the author hinting that King wanted a Benn win as McClellan was planning to leave King and fight Jones after Benn, also didn't McClellan and the King family hate each other?
McClellan was down to fight Liles after Benn, them tempt Jones over. Jones before and after Benn-McClellan and before and after Jones-Toney said the only fighter that could give him a challenge was Chris Eubank.
Benn did not say he wanted to fght Jones right after the McClellan fight. People have this memory of Jones now, but I was around THEN. When asked, he gave a half ass answer on he knows how good Jones was, and said some other shite so stop lying lol...
